Still holding 185, but it wasn't at all easy. On almost every morning, I saw numbers hover above that, stopping just short of the 190 mark. I even saw a 197 one night (fully dressed and in snowboots, all after eating a bunch of pasta, i must add) The upside is weighing myself all the time tells me exactly what I need to know: I usually have less than 15 pounds of cushion keeping me out of Clyde range. That is not much.

Weighing myself each AM also helps to remind me that I can't afford to eat that extra slice of pizza, or order up those fries and cheeseburger, or to gobble on that bag of chips, or box of crackers and hunk of chedder cheese, apple pie with ice cream or chocolate cake, yet alone a steak....you name it. I can't eat it until the weight sits comfortably below 187. I do this -- make these food eating decisions -- every day, all week, and the decisions hinge on what I weighed that morning. Today, i am light, plus I will be out in the snow all evening after work, so, I will chow down three huge slices of Square Pizza today for lunch.

281.3 lbs Ouch, up 1.1 pounds from last week, but there was steak & cake &chocolate due to valentines day. What's a guy supposed to do? Oh well, my plan is to accept the little bump in the road and return to my daily exercise and salads. I'll get there, this week will be better.

youcoming 02-15-10 01:06 PM

Started out on Boxing Day at 240lbs, and I said this will not do! Time to change my lifestyle. I will list weeks starting from 1st week of January.
Week 1 - 230lbs
Week 2 - 230lbs
Week 3 - 231lbs Started Eat Clean Diet for Men
Week 4 - 226lbs
Week 5 - 223lbs
Week 6 - 220lbs
Week 7 - 216lbs

Great results to date with a 14lbs los since the new year and 24 lbs since Boxing Day. My intital goal is of coarse 200lbs. After that everything is a bonus! I will say though my real goal, which I'm totally dedicated to is 180lbs or less! Pretty big goal for a guy 6'1" who's never seen sub 200 in a long time. Still a far way off my peak of 305, 5 years ago!

emperorcezar 02-15-10 01:10 PM

Started out this morning at 289. Last week was bad after the super bowl. I went Up to 291. I hope to break into 286 this week. I made a bet with my wife that if I get to 220 by our move date something in August, I can get a new bike. \o/

markm109 02-15-10 01:14 PM

236.5 this morning. Down 3.5 from last week. I started Dec 21st so this is 8 weeks for me. Started at 255, so I'm down 18.5 pounds.

I've got a ways to go - ultimate goal is 180 or so. I'm trying to be around 200 before I go back to the doctor for my checkup in June.

5kdad 02-15-10 01:23 PM

Second week in a row, up 1 pound. Having problems breaking through the 200 mile stone. Was 200.5 first of month, today 202.5. I AM determined this week will be different.
I've felt a little sluggish this past week, not getting in as much time on the Schwinn Airdyne as I should. For 3 months, eating mostly vegan, and some fish. Wondering if I need more iron, so had some chicken livers over the week end. Thinking about adding eggs and greek yogurt for protein sources.
I AM determined to be under 200 ASAP.
Maybe I ate too many valentine cookies.

Bodydoc2002 02-15-10 03:19 PM

Ok so I cheated and did'nt post last week. Last weekend was 3 days of New Orleans Mardi Gras and Super bowl parties with CRAZY night on Bourbon St after the Saints won. I put on 2lbs that weekend so I was back to 264. Today i'm 259lbs I have to look at old posts to see where that puts me for a total. Should be around 6-8lbs in 3 weeks. This week alone was 5lbs. I really cut back on carbs this week and i'm now doing a carb cycling routine with a personal trainer which has helped me get my Macros in line. Keep eating clean and back on the bike when the weather breaks above the 50s. Which I hope is by Thursday! Just trying to keep my average of 2lbs a week!

Wylde06 02-16-10 10:15 AM

228...up from two weeks ago...

I didnt report in last weeks thread...but this past week and a half has been pretty stressful with my Uncle passing away, so we have been dealing with that..

I really cant wait for spring, because I know that I will start losing more weight.

Same goals as before

As one who eats a mostly vegan diet, I've been there; done that.

Some small hints: When going vegan always eat your spinach, kales and other dark, dark greens for iron. Also, watch out to make sure you get enough Vitamin B. I supplement with emergen-C in summer and in winter I eat buffalo meat, eggs and raw cheese in moderation.

Oh, also, make sure you have your fats. I gobble coconut oil like its out of style (I use it as my butter, spreading it on everything). I also eat a lot of avocado, nut butter (almond and cashew) as well as pouring an extra amount of olive oil in my salads (which consist mostly of chard, kale and spinach, not lettuce) at this time of year.

I hope this bit of info helps ya.

Thanks for your comments.
I don't eat as many dark green veggies as I should, actually, I'm not a big salad fan. And if I eat too many raw veggies, it bothers my stomach. Inherited that from my mom.
Why the different source of Vitamin B in summer vs. winter?
I'll check into the coconut oil. I probably eat at least 3-4 avocados a week, love them in sandwiches (pita bread, grey poupon mustard, tomato and alfalfa sprouts), with veggie burgers, adding to a veggie sandwich from Subway, or with a sardine sandwich (something I picked up from the food channel).
Something new I had today for lunch. Bought a veggie sandwich from Subway, and added hummus. Really good!

Well, last week I was at 216.5 which was up from the previous week of 211. Monday I weighed in at 214.5 but Sunday, before my ride I was at 211. Does anyone else find that their weight spikes the day after a long ride? I was pretty consistent during the week...varied between 210 and 211 but after my 34 mile Sunday ride (long for me) I was up to 214. The same thing happened last week. I spiked to 216.5 after a long ride on Sunday.

With the Saints win and Mardi Gras, I haven't been logging on Fitday. I need to get back to that. I can't wait for the warmer, longer summer days to get here so that I can ride some during the week!

I've noticed that also, that I often weigh more, never less, the day after a long ride. But 2 or 3 days later, I may be down.
Last year I did Ragbrai for the first time. I weighed when I returned home, lost 1/2 pound after that week of riding. But one week later, I was down 5 pounds.

Down 1 lb from last week

No real reason other than that I seem to not want to eat any meat in summer, but tend to not mind it so much in winter. I eat the animal products in winter because they are the most efficient source of calories and many other important vitamins and minerals (assuming grass-fed animals that lived out in the sunlight).

BTW: I still supplement with the Emergen-C all throughout winter. Maybe even more so than in summer.

DallasSoxFan 02-16-10 03:30 PM

I haven't had an official weigh-in at Weight Watchers since 1/26. There was a work emergency two weeks ago, and the instructor came down with the stomach bug thing last week. My drop was 7 pounds to 217.6. This despite the cajun superbown party and the resulting excessive butter consumption.

According to WW, I'm losing too fast and should slow down. I'm not buying it. I'm a 33 y.o 6'2" male and have averaged 3.25 lost per week. Seems okay to me given my bike commuting and random additional workouts. I haven't felt hungry and have good energy - my rides have been stronger and quicker.

On Saturday, I roasted a thawed extra turkey from thanksgiving to eat on all week. I also modified a family stuffing recipe that I think was an improvement in terms of health and taste. Here's the before and after:

before:
1 stick butter
5 cups onion
5 cups celery
2 pounds Jimmy Dean sausage
1 package pepperidge farm herb seasoned stuffing
2 eggs
chicken broth

After:
1/2 stick butter (could probably go down to 2 TB. Need just enough to keep onions from burning to pot while juice is released)
5 cups onion
5 cups celery
2 pounds jennie-o turkey sweet italian sausage
1 package pep. farm herb stuffing
chicken broth

DallasSoxFan 02-16-10 03:31 PM

Oh, I also made up 8 quarts of homemade turkey soup from the carcass and leftover dark meat. I was reminded that I really need to buy a pressure canner one of these days.

cyclokitty 02-16-10 09:50 PM

Hiya! I've lost 8 pounds since January 1st. I'm pretty thrilled since I had a couple of weeks where the scale refused to budge after all of my hard work minding what I ate and exercising more. I decided to list everything I ate and then look for lower caloric alternatives.

Lesson learned: hey, fruit is lower in calories than cookies.

Dieting has been easier on my budget. I've stopped going to Starbucks and make all of my meals at home instead of take out or convenience meals.

This is a milder winter than in the past so I'm taking advantage of it by riding whenever I can and taking walks in the afternoon.

Jan 1st weight: 288
Monday weight: 280 --- I'm getting there!

I had to give up the diet pepsi entirely. I used to be a big drinker of diet pop and found I could not lose weight when I had it. It was very tough but I haven't had any in 2010.

I drink mostly water now. I'll have the lemonaid when I go to Subway (6" veggie, no cheese) or unsweetened ice tea at other restaurants, but no diet pop. It gets easier as time passes.

SSGPJ 02-19-10 07:43 AM

Its coming off slowly but Im down 1 more pound to 268 without much exercise this week due to a nasty cold

You might want to try adding some Emergen-C to your water. The C has about 5g of sugar per pack and all the vitamins and minerals you need for a day -- and then some.

I find the 5g of sugar to be very usefull in providing me with the exact amount of energy I need at a given moment in the day (you know, when the energy ebbs and the snickers bar would otherwise call). Once I began adding a couple packs of those Emergen-C with my daily water consumption, I began losing serioous weight (40 lbs in less than a year). I attribute the weight loss to not being hungry all the time, which I attribute to being fully nurished. THe EC packs do that for ya.

On Diet pop: I suspect that diet soda leeches minerals from our bodies which, in turn, causes us to crave strange foods in an effort to replace those minerals. So, my theory is that, because of that over-eating to account for the mineral-leeching effect, diet pop causes weight gain.

RustyD 02-20-10 01:23 AM

I just found this thread, but I started out at 266 on Jan 1. I'm down to 235 as of today, down 31 lbs. Feeling great. I'm training for a spring triathlon on Apr 25, so that's my motivation.
