The Spoke Poppers Ride the Tour de Cure!

There's an all-Clyde team forming for the Central PA Tour de Cure, May 22, in scenic Boiling Springs, PA - The Spoke Poppers!

So far, it's just two people, Bautieri the team Captain, and The Historian. But we hope other people will join.

The course is about 65 miles of rolling countryside, with one optional climb into King's Gap, a state park with a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. If you want to skip the climb into King's Gap, the course is 58 miles. There's also a 33 mile option. I rode the 33 last year, unfortunately falling prey to my underachieving side. This year I'm going for the whole thing, including the climb. Bautieri is of course Bautasitc, and will work to improve his lightening fast time from last year. Care to join us?

https://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/Tou...eam&fr_id=6855

I'll be organizing a couple of training rides in April and May; even if you don't join the team, please feel free to join me on them. I'll post about them in this thread when I've finalized the plans.

Here's the view from King's Gap, taken during my visit this September.

The wife and myself have signed up for the Greater Philadelphia ride on the 23rd of May. But, we would be interested in your training rides, keep us posted on the dates and times, and we will boogie up to your location from the shore.

Do you have any plans on doing the Kelly ride or the Ride to the Shore later in the year?

I'll be leading the training rides in Chester or Bucks county. I still have to plan the course, and choose the dates. Please bring hill climbing legs.

I'm considering the MS City to Shore, but the fundraising goals for that ride might be a problem.

We also welcome non clydes/athena's as well, so feel free to invite your friends, family, and significant others to join!

I'll be leading training rides out of Dauphin, Cumberland, York, and Lancaster county. Any and all are welcome to join in wether you're riding the TdC or not. Hope to see you there

I'll be riding the Seattle TdC on the same day, captaining my company team.
Good luck with your fundraising, and have an awesome time on the ride!

Also worth while to mention that there is a supported mountain bike leg this year to be held on June 6th. I plan on riding this as well and would welcome some company.

Some highlights from last year:

Bautieri and vXhanz at the finish. Ben has gone through 15 different bikes since then.

First rest stop:

Lovely abandoned building just past the 33/63 mile split:

Passing through historic Carlisle, PA. One of the routes passes by the gravesite of Molly Pitcher, the first American woman we know by name to serve in combat.

Can't join you because I am most likely registering for an event in the Poconos on that day but I am curious about these charity rides. Do they give you a timing chip or are they pretty much self timed?

I was registered as an individual, but an currently in the process of changing my status to spoke popper. Hoping to join some of the training rides and getting to know a bunch of members from BF. I have enjoyed your posts, looking forward to meeting some of you.

I'm checking my schedule. I may be able to make it. We have family and friends in that area, and we've been looking for a reason to get up there...

Most charity rides are not races and are not to be treated as such. All you have to do is beat the course closing time. Any timing you do is done by your bike computer.

If you decide not to register for the Pocono event it would be great to have you join us!

Just as good of a reason as any, if you can make it up it would be great to have you with us.

Here's the 100 K minus the climb into King's Gap. It has about 1700 feet of climbing.
