    headwinds scuk

Now, I freely admit i'm in horrible shape after the winter. But when i have to use my lowest gear (26 gear inches or so) on level ground, you know the wind is blowing.

Naw, that's no wind. A real wind is when you have to downshift to the lowest gear to ride downhill.

yes they do...the majority of my ride today was either no wind or a light tailwind. with 4 miles left of the ride, the winds really picked up...and of course it was a headwind

Think of headwinds as "horizontal hills"...still suck, but something that has to be dealt with...

i think head winds are equivalent to a hill, it's good for you if you're considering training, but if you ride just for fun then you can continue to hate it.

Well, it's been windy the last couple of weeks. But, I'm also getting better at riding in the drops, and it's almost comfortable for me now, so there is a side benefit. And after riding around on daily rides in the wind, I was able to get out on a brevet and ride in the wind and feel pretty good about it. So it's not all negative.

Here too, few weeks back I recall getting passed by leaves and I was doing 22. Time to pick up the pace.

headwinds are pretty brutal. I ride of the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey and then up a bike route that has a ton of hills and the wind is always coming out of the north it seems. It's brutal. But the speed on the way back with it being primarily downhill and downwind is exhilarating.

I agree, rode the canal path near me last Saturday, I couldn't keep my MTB going much faster than 10mph, till I turned around and then i was averaging 14mph with a few long stretches of 18mph when I got on it. Not bad for 26x2.1" tires and my aerodynamically challenged stature I only went 15 miles total, was planning on 21, but the winds were literally blowing dust into my lungs and breathing became a chore, I decided it was safer to turn around than to hurt all day Sunday. Its only April, Lots of riding left this year...lots

One of the joys of living in Western KS. What we lack in hills we make up for in wind. I ride with a bandana around my neck for the dust. It looks kind of silly but works well.
Be prepared. Do a good turn daily.

Saturday, outbound leg 30 miles at 9 mph and I did have to pedal down one hill. Inbound leg 20 miles at 18 mph.

It's a bad head wind when I'm heading down a hill and my speedometer goes from 30 km/hr to 15 km/hr and it feels like someone is holding my forehead. Luckily that wasn't today but last week -- man oh man! The Cyclokitty was a cranky Cyclokitty pedaling down a hill.

Today was about that bad. 20 mph, gusting to almost 40.

And you have to fight the wind going up the hill AND back down the hill.

Today was 35kph winds gusting to 50 >.> about 1:15 for the 20k out but less than 30 mins for the 20k back.

I spun out my LHT going 57kph (35mph) on level ground for about 3k.. quite fun.

Best thing about cycling is when I'm at work I'm thinking of cycling, when I'm cycling I'm thinking about cycling.
