Hemet Double Century
Saturday I did the Hemet Double Century. It’s a very urban double with close to 200 stop signs or lights. With all the stop signs and lights of course you have all the traffic that goes with it. I started with a group at 5am and it was cool and one area just before sunrise it got down to 40, but as the day went on to reached 87.
I finished the 202.3 miles and 6,100’ of climbing with an overall time of 14:30 and a on the bike time of 12:43. It wasn’t my best time, but stopping at all the signs and lights just eats you up and kills your time.
I got ride and/or visit with Lynn, John Long, Bill, Dan (Lanceoldstrong), Curtis (CCCorlew), Rick, Frank, Chuck and many others. This was my third double of the year so I now have qualified my Triple Crown for this year.

Hehehe. I love the fact that a course which "ate up all your time" took you 14h 30m for a full double, and my last 300k (192mi total) on a course with plenty of long, signless stretches of open highway took me 15h 11m; and that was my "holy crap is this fast!" pace.
Nice job on getting your Triple Crown this early!

That's why Hemet isn't one of my favorite doubles. It's got to be even worse nowadays with all the people living in the area. It used to be much more rural.
The weekend before Hemet I believe that I saw you out on the road east of Bakersfield (out near the oilfields). We were doing some training for RAAM. Was that you???

Yes you did! Linda and her partner were on their tandem. We were just coming back in from doing the Round Mt. loop. The day before I had put on a century ride and did even know if I could even get on my bike let alone ride it, but the farther I rode the better I felt. If you're going to be in Bakersfield again training drop me a line. The stop/start all day at Hemet just wears on you.

Why of course! I like that stop, let see it's the last one and it seems it's 100 miles to the end.
