I did it! Biked to work!

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/ride/united-...27245801738421

Nervous as all get out this morning (almost chickened out) but threw on my backpack, buckled the helmet, & took off. About 45min door-to-door (thinking actual biking time is less due to stopping for lights & having to walk bike over sections of missing sidewalk), the ride home will take a little longer (there's a VERY steep hill starting at 104th & Chicago Dr, have to walk it).

A great time, enjoyable weather, can't wait to bike at noon!
I really did weigh more than Jared from Subway...

Ride part of the hill if you can. Show it some determination, and you might find it becomes frightened and lets you ride up.

    Congratulations on your commute!

nice day for a ride to work in our climes...chilly but clear.

after a few times you can start fine-tuning the route a bit. And after a few more times it will become much more routine.

Congrats on the cycle commute, but ...

... a bike ride at lunch is the best part! After being stressed by the job for four hours, the simple joy of 'flying' down the road on two wheels is always a great relief.

This being the Clydesdale & Athena forum, I should also congratulate you, since I just read that the average bike commuter loses 13 lbs in their first year.

Congratulations on your first ride. I still remember mine from last year like it was yesterday. Now I try to do it 3-4 days a week if the weather and my work schedule allow.

Commuting to work by bike is awesome. The problem is the 8 hours at work that you have to wait until you can ride back home.

Congrats. That looks like a nice commute with few intersections, where you have to interrupt the pedaling rhythm. Keep off the sidewalk. Take a piece of chalk to mark the date on the road, where you get off the bike for the hill. Your progtress will amaze you.

Nice Man, Congrats. I started riding in the fall and its been great. Its an amazing workout and (for me at least) it takes the same hour i would be standing on a stinky nyc subway. If you used mapmyrun i am assuming you have an iphone. You should check out runkeeper. There is a free version. The site is much better than mapmyrun. They show the map, per mile splits, and overlay of elevation and your speed(so you can see how you do on climbs) and it lets you store your weight in your profile and it does a pretty accurate calc on calories burned.

Check out my ride to work today... http://rnkpr.com/a59p71
