Longest ride..

Well today I did the first day of the ms150... 83.4 miles. My longest before this was 45 miles in one day.

Problem I am having tonight is pretty bad muscle strain in my left leg. It started 60 miles into the ride. I do not know if it was from poor set up, or just over doing it... either way, not looking good for me tomorrow..

most likely over doing it. get bananas and powerade, lots. On tomorrows ride take it easy, you can go further at a slower pace. Don't think about other people passing you. Take some longer breaks at the stops and enjoy conversation with other riders.

Probably a combination of overexertion and dehydration. Get lots of fluids before and during the ride. In my case, I've found that at rest stops sitting down is not a good idea. Like cyclist200 said, take it easy, even if it means slowing down. Also, during the rest stops it might help to do some calf stretches.

Muscle strain- no quick solution.

Muscle cramp- the powerade, bananas, electrolytes, etc.

yep, I woke up this morning late... I fell asleep on the couch sometime last night, then stumble bumped to the bedroom and did not set my alarm clock.. I woke up at 9 am this morning, way to late for the start... Leg is still hurting, though not as bad...


It stinks that I did not finish the ride, but the cool news is I raised over what I wanted to on fund raising... so thats a plus and it was a great ride on the first day...

hot bath. 20 min minimum. epsom salt - 2 heaping cups. and whatever bayj soap you have. you can use a clear shampoo in a pinch. but the magnesium from the epsom salt will get absorbed and help the muscle recover. also a tiny bit of magnesium. tiny. but a full dose of potassium too. you need help so get someone to gather those things. theres still time. also massage. you really gotta work it.

you might be done though, and there's no shame. that's a big 1st long ride. if you ride tomorrow, stay off the gas.
