Can you recommend a bike for me?

Hi, I am 5'3" woman and am close to 250 lbs, really trying to lose weight but havent been on a bike in 15 years. I remember how I used to love riding my bike as a teenager and want to get back to that.. slow but steadily.

What bike would you recommend for me? I can spend up to $500.

Thanks in advance!!

An open door...

Realizing we have no idea what type of riding you want to do (road, bike path, dirt, etc) we can only go on price and personal opinion. That said, both myself and my wife are on Giant Suede DX bicycles. Part of the decision is what does a great, quality LBS sell where you live? Too be honest, IMO I think it's like Ford VS Chevy - most of the major brands are bout the same, it seems to be personal preference...

The reason we went with the Suede is it's more of a comfort bike than a road bike - easier to get used to, more of a upright riding position, and being a "pedal forward" style means you can put your feet on the ground from the seat.

This LINK will show you the various bikes to choose from made by Giant.

I added both Fenders and a rear rack to mine. Cindy doesn't like the look of fenders, and instead went with a small handle-bar bag. I am 6' 0" and she is 4' 11". At a starting weight of around 380lbs, I've had spoke issues with the rear wheel - but my LBS is right now swapping my wheels out under warrenty. Cin (being close to your size) has had zero issues...

Whatever you get, don't get a heavy mountain bike with big tires. You will be discouraged with how slow you go and how hard it is to maintain that speed.
