The Quarter Million Calorie Challenge!

OK, so I know this is cheesy, but I'm using it to motivate myself :D

after griping that I only lost 10 pounds over 1,000 miles of cycling, I did the math on how many calories I would need to burn to come closer to my weight-loss goals. at my weight I'm guessing I burn about 50 calories per mile, so ~5,000 miles should do it. that's about a quarter-million calories.

so I'm starting the Quarter Million Calorie Challenge, which to me sounds more impressive than let's-see-if-I-can-ride-five-thousand-miles-this-year :twitchy:

with my daily 25-mile round trip commute plus a distance ride every other weekend, I think it's possible, though I might struggle in the winter to keep that up (I've commuted in 17-degree weather before).

So here goes. I'm trying to think of some visual way to track progress. I have a Garmin Edge to keep track of the mileage, though I don't know how to export a running tally to a webpage. (it tracks calories too but seems to overestimate by a factor of 2.) anyone know how to publish an externally-visible report using Garmin Connect (formerly MotionBased?) Would love to put it in my signature somehow, the way other list their weight-loss progress...

wish me luck! (don't worry, I'm not out to recruit you)

That sounds like a worthy challenge. Its quite tempting to join you when I am back from Holidays in a month or so.
