Calling Eastern PA Clydes, June 26th

Hey Eastern PA Clydes,

On June 25th & 26th I will be riding from State College, PA to a town called Cedars, PA for a total of approx 200 miles(120 Miles day 1, 80 miles day 2). I will be picking up the Perkiomen Trail at Green Lane Park hopefully around 12:00 - 12:30 on Saturday June 26th and taking it to around Graterford and hopping onto the Skippack Trail to get me over to Cedars. I would welcome anyone who will be willing to drag me down the trail at that point. Actually, I will be on my road bike until Green Lane then hopping on a 1970ish Schwinn Tandem at which time my 10 yr old daughter will join me. I am hoping she will be able to provide a little extra push over that 12% grade behind Spring Mount. The ride is called VisionRide and you can read more about it here www.VisionRide.org. There is a map of the entire route on there. I am not soliciting funds from the forum just company as I know some of you are in the area of the Perkiomen Trail. Hope you can join me!

Hey BU,

I hunt near where the route crosses Route 100. Beautiful country. I was out there last week visiting my friend. On the way back on Huff's Church Road there is a guy called "Owen the Bike Guy" whose house you will see if the weather is nice because he opens his garage and it is FULL of bikes.

I stopped to look around. He said he has literally 2000 bikes there. Probably 100 in the garage, then the back yard, then under tarps all over his property. Very cool stuff. Some ratty old stuff, but a lot in good shape. If you like old steel bikes of any vintage it is well worth stopping to get a card and go back later.

Peace.

If I am still coherent at that point in the ride (I may be standing up a lot ) and if time permits I may just check it out. Thanks for tip.

Sounds good. I will PM you with my email address.

We are leaving 7:00 AM Friday, most likely from my house, and heading out 45 to Brush Valley Road to Centre Hall. You are welcome to join us if it works out. So far there are only 2 of us starting out on Friday. Hard to get commitments for a 200 mile ride.

If you are new to town there are a couple of email lists that cirulate prior to the weekend. I post rides but I don't tend to ride at normal hours. Training has been what ever I can squeeze in when I can squeeze it in. I like riding up mountiains on some rides. This Saturday doesn't look good but late Sunday afternoon looks like I can fit in a ride. Looking to do maybe 50 or 60, can be flattish or with a couple of hill climbs thrown in.

Cool! Looking forward to meeting the legendary Historian. Although I must warn you I may not be at my best (in case I am a bit groggy and in pain) after 180 miles in the saddle

I'm never at my best under any circumstances, so we should be well matched.

That 12% is tough. I would have made it on the road but didn't on the trail. Made the mistake of standing up. Rear wheel slipped lost all forward momentum and stopped about 200-300 feet from the top. Oh well maybe next time.

I'll be looking for Big Ugly either at Schwenksville or at Green Lane. I fear I'll slow him down if I ride with him from Green Lane. :-(
