Took my longest ride this morning. 53 miles!

I think I want to buy a road bike. Met a friend and we took a 50 mile loop this morning. Me on my trusty Trek 7.2FX and him on his road bike. My previous longest ride was 20 miles. We had a really good time riding through the Kentucky countryside.

Here's the map and info from ride: https://rnkpr.com/a6ufm7

BTW, my iPhone battery died so Runkeeper only captured the first 49.75 miles. I rode the nearly 4 miles back home as well. Time to buy a bike computer.

Great ride. How do you feel now? You more than doubled your previous distance, and I wonder if you've had any side effects from it.

Well, that's quite an uptick from 20 miles, congrats.

You deserve a new bike for that.

I feel fine. Little sore and tired but overall better than I expected to feel. Really wanting a road bike at this point. I bought the 7.2FX thinking I'd ride 10 miles or so a few times a week for exercise but now I'm hooked and wanting to ride for distance.

Awesome ride! Did you slip some slicks on for the ride or did you go knobby?

I like my Garmin 305. The newer versions are slicker.

No slicks but I wouldn't call the factory tires on a 7.2 FX knobbies either. Haven't had the bike 2 months yet and I'm dying to buy a road bike. Wife is going to kill me. Anyone want to buy a practically new 22.5" Trek 7.2 FX?

Where in Ky do your ride? Lexington here, and a few surrounding counties.

I used to ride in the Lexington-Fayette area long ago. So long ago, in fact, that there is no way I will remember where I went. It was nice riding there, as I recall. I used to ride there 1990-1993. Yow! How the years pass.

I believe they come with a hardcase, puncture-resistant tire. Smooth, but a lot heavier than most road tires. Also, they are 35c, which is wider than tires on most road bikes.

If you can't swing getting a road bike, you could coax a little more speed out of the 7.2 by switching to narrower tires.

It is?? Are you sure <grin> But, if the price is right...

Also, be sure if you go to narrower tires, to get the high pressure ones~! Lower pressure tires will negate any gain from going narrower

What would be a reasonable price for a near new 7.2FX? I put it on Craigslist for $450. I'm guessing that might be a little high. What should I expect to get for it? I think I've found a Cannondale Synapse 7 2008 model road bike I can buy fairly cheap. Need to turn my bike ASAP.

Eh...considering that brand new it was 529...you might be just a tad high depending what your local craigslist looks like. Check around some bike shops and see what their left overs are selling for, subtract 50 bucks and go from there.

Then again, someone might bite on the 450, keep it up for a week and see what you get. Or save a bunch of money and buy some thinner slicks for it.

Congrats on your longest ride
