Cool Ride (for a Tuesday afternoon)

So I was feeling a bit bored and unmotivated today, so I decided on a whim to go all out and push myself a little bit. I have talked about riding up to the Reading Pagoda for awhile now and I just decided that today was the day. So I put some iced tea in the water bottles and grabbed the camera.

From my house, the first scenic thing I came about was Bernhart's Dam & Reservoir.

Shortly after taking those photos, it began to rain on me. The combination of hot pavement below me and rain falling on me created the unique feeling that vegetable must know when they're in the steamer. And that's when the suck began. The climbing is at its hideous steepest right at the get-go, traveling up 400 ft in only about 1/2 mile.

I've come so far...

And yet I have so much farther to go!

The ride climbs about 800 ft. total over a distance of about 4 miles. The highest point on the ride is the Fire Tower.

As I was riding, I heard a loud rustling in the trees beside me. Now I'm used to the sound of squirrels and chipmunks, but this was something MUCH bigger!

After that little wildlife encounter, I continued along to my final destination, the Reading Pagoda!

Before I left, I took a short hike to get a better vantage point:

And then I enjoyed the scenery!

PS - sorry for splitting things up. Apparently there are limits to image posting.

So Sayrekulp, is it easier to climb Mount Penn from Skyline or from Duryea? I'd planned a ride last year that climbed the back of the mountain and descended into Reading. Does the route at the link below look ok?

Skyline and Duryea are pretty much the same story. With the route you have mapped out there, your biggest challenge will probably be on Angora. That can be a beast. I will say with absolute certainty though, DO NOT try to climb McKnight's Gap. It SUCKED! I'm not a wuss when it comes to climbing, but way too steep, way too fast.
