The article was written in the early 90s. Ibis didn't make their first CF frame until 2006 (according to wikipedia.) So I think we can trust Nicol here. Especially as the article is the most widely cited bike materials article and agrees with all the other reasonable sources *and* is very frank about the problems with CF. Nicol has produced a bike in every material he discusses - steel, alu, ti, CF - and has never felt the need to make major changes to the article. It's a solid piece of work.
