Accomplished my first goal this morning........

I have been back on the saddle for exactly nine weeks today. I have been riding every single day with no days off avg of 12-13 miles and my avg is up to 12.9-13.4 mph. I am totally hooked and i am done being Big Al my new motto is "from Big al to where is Al?"
well back to my accomplishment as of this morning I have officially logged 500.3 miles on my bike. I truly have enjoyed every single minute of it even at times when I felt like I could not do it. I log in everyday what I accomplished on that day and you can see the substantial gain in progess from distance to avg speed. Thanks for having a section where I dont feel out of place like I do in other areas of my lfe!!!!!!:D

that's pretty fast. Don't kill yourself in that Florida heat. Do you use a heart monitor or just kind of ride?

Rob_U 07-26-10 06:03 PM

Just work your way up slowly, and keep at it. Two years ago I started at 8mph for only 6 miles, and ended up at about 12 miles at 12mph. last year same distance but at 13-14mph, and one big ride for 26 miles. I used a trainer stand this winter, and I have been doing 15mph for 15 miles most of the spring, and then upped it to 26 miles at 15.5mph to train for a hilly 64 mile ride, which i averaged 15.67mph. Last week i did 32mile ride at 16.7 , and a hilly 35 mile ride at 17.1mph average, they were hard rides, but I can do 15.5mph ave. easily now. I lost fifty pounds the first year, and I've maintained since.

I'm not trying to brag, but saying take your time, take it steady, and you'll get there.

Keep up the good work.

I do have a heart rate monitor and I am in the "Zone" for my height and weight between 55-65 minutes my rate ranges from 121-145 then when recovering it goes down to 111-114 give or take. I ride everyday from 6:30am to 7:45-50am the temp is actually kind of cooler for florida 78-85 degrees...

I am trying to not over kill my self but I do try to push my self every time I ride even if it is just an extra .1 of a mile or .1 of distance..

I am enjoying this so much that I have to remind my self "hey you are not in your 20's anymore nor you weight 160" heheheh I did alot of mountain biking in my mid 20's then I dont remember why I even quit..... I really appreciate all the advice and support..... BTW this morning I rode 15.4 miles @ avg of 12.3 mph......

The HARD part for me is just the eating part, I have made some adjustments by eating the correct foods & portions, staying away as much as possible from the three "S's" salt, sugar & starch and the fried stuff. I am doing alot better but I not perfect but really committed to doing it perfect for the rest of my life........
