First Century in 20 years!

Last 2 weekends I've completed metric centuries... Today I stepped up my game and did a full Century!!! I did the Black Bear Tour from Grayling to Oscoda. Some very tough hills! (did I mention I live where it is 100% flat!) And of course we had a very usual East wind, which may for a nice HEAD WIND! I ended up completing the course in 7 hours 20 mintues (total time). My rolling avg was 14.7 miles. VERY HAPPY with the results! Great way to wrap up the 8th week of being back in the saddle!

Two great moments... at the 70 mile mark there was one extremely tough hill. Quite a few people walking it, including a number of people who had passed me earlier. I some how managed to SPIN my way all the way to the TOP! Ok, I did have to take a break at the top, since I was about 100% Max HR... So I standing at the top a couple on a tandem finished walking the hill and they comment, "Man, you have a set of legs! You are an ANIMAL!" Made me feel good!

The best moment however was at about the mid-way point where my wife stopped with my two daughters, 4 and 6 and my little girls were out there cheering on their Daddy!!! Man, what a feeling that was!!!

What a day!!!

Ok.. thanks to all that contribute here! You guys are amazing source of inspiration!!! I found myself more than once just saying to myself "HTFU!!" LOL!

thanks all!

AWESOME!!!!!!

also on the 32# lost - I'm at precisely the same point, though with no fancy weight-loss-ticker to show the world

Thanks!

The head wind was a bit of an unwelcome surprise! 99% of the time the wind would be out of the West for a nice tail wind! Of all days to switch to the East! LOL

Thanks!

I just found the official results! While this ride is a Tour, they did have actual timing equipment! So my official time was 7:20:41 with an average speed of 13.6 MPH!

There were 325 riders that started with 287 that actually finished. I came in at #272. I didn't come in LAST!!! LOL! I feel like Steve Martin in The Jerk, where he finds his name in the phone book, "I'm somebody now!" LOL

What an inspiration to make me want to train harder. I have my first century at the end of the month. Congrats on the weight loss and the mile stone.
