Need some help, im new
So let me start off my saying I'm new to this forum, but not new to being big. So i have decided to do something about it. Im new to biking but I am interested and want to lose weight and honestly its alot of fun. Currently I weigh about 290 - 300lbs and im 6'1. My friend does alot of dirt jumping and he gave me his old 06 Mongoose Thunderball (its like the model before they made the fireball) and its a good bike. However im afraid that this bike, while very sturdy wont be able to maintain when i start riding alot. I took it for a ride yesterday and today and notice the front suspension has alot of bounce likely because its a dirt jumper. The catch 22 is when i start riding there alot of bounce because my weight pressing down simulates the same effect as the bike landing. I imagine that constant pressure isnt good. Does any one have any recomendations if i can make this bike work for me. I dont have to much money to spend currently so buying new and expensive isnt really an option right now. I mainly want to ride street and trails nothing too extreme though. Should i be looking for a hardtail bike or something else. If anyone is near my size, knows how i can make this current bike work for me, or has a recommendation on a type i should get let me know, any help would really be appreciated. Thanks alot
I'm no mountain biker, but wasn't the Thunderball a hardtail? And you should be able to adjust the travel on the front suspension by turning the small adjusters at the top of the forks? So you should be able to ride it on the roads with minimal travel on the suspension. Unless there's something specific about this model, that is. MTB-ers might help you more.
See its pretty obvious how little i know right now. It is a hardtail, and yeah i see the adjustments on the fork, that im guessing change the psi. Thanks i appreciate the input. Anyone else have any updates or help for me as well
