Ride with The Historian

Tomorrow morning I am heading out to Pymatuning State park on the Ohio/ Pennsylvania border to hang out with and ride with The Historian. It sounds like we will take a leisurely ride around one of the lakes there. This a great excuse to get out and meet other Clydes (Athenas are welcome too). I have room in my Durango for two more people and their bikes as long as you don't mind my broken A/C. If you can stand that, come on. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come out on their own as well. Shoot me a PM and we'll coordinate the finer details as the day goes on. Sorry about the short notice, but not you have an "excuse" to play hookie from work and ride your bike.

Route should be 23 flat miles around the lower part of the lake:

Note we cross the Ohio/PA border twice.

Found this map on Garmin Connect. It gives you a general idea on elevations.

Thank goodness this ride is flat. My knees are acting up from my 41 miles of riding yesterday.

Stoutdog will update the thread later. I'm signing off now, and probably won't be back online for a couple of weeks.

That's pretty cool, I hope the ride was a good one. Garmin Connect is a pretty good way to find routes using the explore link. I'll just punch in a town, or zip if I know it.

I enjoyed meeting thestoutdog. Unfortunately, I had to bail after two miles. To make a long story short, Doc says no riding until after reveiwing the results of a cardiac stress test to be done on September 2nd. Pretty much relegates me to SAG, and maybe sneak a mile or two in here and there.

I had planned to do The Ghost Town Trail from Ebensburg to Blacklick (40 miles if counting the Rexis Branch) with The Historian (over one or two days), but now am unable to. Anyone out there want to join him? There's also a covered bridge ride in Bedford County I was planning (16 miles, rolling to flat with one hill), and of course, the Cumberland Glide on the 28th or 29th -- which I will participate in.

Any takers?

Waiting for photos.....

I led our stout friend on a wrong turn and we missed the park entrance, adding a mile and a half to a 23 mile route. Lots of photos....

I saw Peter C and his wife on Thursday. Hiked a little in the park and went into the water.

Okay, Without further ado.....

Pymatuning State Park, The Historian meets TheStoutdog 2010

We started out around 2pm under favorable conditions. Slightly overcast, slight breeze, upper 70's, and two Clydes.

We rode for 5 or six miles, then stopped for photo (and a butt/ stretch break).

While splitting the lake in two, we managed to be in two places at once.

We really could not have asked for a more perfect day to ride. We randomly stopped for photos. Unfortunately, I only have the photos of the better looking of the two of us, so you'll have to wait for the other half of them until Neil gets home.

We had a nice relaxing ride, sharing space with the seagulls that pooped so much on us, Roark fell over (kidding).

Pretty, just the same.

The Historian is faster than he lets on, I had a hard time keeping up with him.

Stopped off for something to drink. I think this first one is a cool picture.

Getting close to the end.

I guess I'm not the only one taking pictures here.

All in all, I had a great time riding with The Historian and would highly recommend everyone give it a try. Thank you Neil for the great experience, and I look forward to many more adventures!

Thanks for the compliment, I really like it, just wish it wasn't so darn heavy.
