Time for the Philly Cheese Steak Ride!!!

Even though I'm not eating cheese or steak, a ride into the city would be fun! Anyone up for it sometime in September?

Yes.

It must be.

Where are we meeting at and whats the route? I've got a friend who is getting married in late September, so earlier in the month is probably preferable.

My stomach says absolutely!! My butt says no way. I decided to buy another house and my riding has been way down as I move stuff, prepare new place, repair old place. I've lost my butt callous. I'm only good for 25 miles. I could sure go for a good cheesesteak.

But if it's early in Sept, I can't as I am not yet allowed to ride

Of Course, The Historian will want to go I am sure - he is still on vacation in western PA right now and not watching the forum...FYI

I'll go. It was my suggestion to ride into Philly for a cheesesteak that lead to Bluetrane and I riding our impromptu century a few weeks back.

Historian will have to weigh in when he gets back as he was the original motivation.

The Philly Cheesesteak Ride is a ride some of us did 2x last year from the dog park at Monte Clare (Near Valley Forge Park) into Philly for a cheesesteak and back. Click the links below and you will see pictures from last year. It is along the river the entire way so as flat as you can get for a long stretch. Round trip is about 45-50 miles. If you can't make the whole trip, there are several trail access points along the way where you can meet us and do a shorter trip.

I am available Sep 4th or 25th at this point. Or Oct 9th, 16th or 23rd.

Peace,

Steve

I'm in. I'm in Johnstown now, and I'm simply flooded with things to do. When I'm finally able to hold my head above water, I'll commit to this ride.

Lessee here, my apartment to Mont Clare is 25 miles one way, then the ride itself is 50, then 25 more to get home...

Century #2 if I feel up to it?

I'd be all wet if I didn't give this the wave of recognition it deserves...

I got you beat, brother. 37 miles from my door to Mont Clare + 30 to cheese steaks, then the whole thing in reverse = about 134 round trip. Not my original idea for a double metric, but it'll do.

I can't do Labor Day weekend. I'm in NY that weekend for 2 big-time festivals.

What about Saturday the 18th?

Sometime you might want to try the corner deli on Fairmont Ave. close to the old Eastern State Pen. The Italian sausage and pepper sandwiches are very good. In warmer weather we go for their egg salad or chicken salad sandwiches on our rides down into Philly.

On our ride into Philly, from LPVP, last week we found the Towpath Trail section a bit rough and overgrown with shrubbery.
