Good riding day....
I had two good things riding today - longest ride of the year (42.5km) and year to date I surpassed last year.....
I wasn't planning on doing either.
Today was one of those rides, where I planned a short ride that kept getting longer.

I expect to fall behind again, we are now under an extreme heat alert, that is expected to continue until Thursday, with temperatures over 30C and humidex (heat index) readings in the 40's, then of course the weather realizes it's September and drops down to more reasonable numbers for this time of year. I find that September and October are the best months weather wise for riding, so I expect to blow last year away.....

I typically don't ride during a heat alert, so taking a few days off.

Not to sound silly but y'all have a heat alert for 35c? Yes, I know it's around 95f or so but we usually don't get heat alerts until it sustains over 100f. That's not factoring in humidity.
I guess it's like us freaking out about it getting to freezing.

Yeah... we get 2 feet of snow and don't blink, but 35c? That's a nightmare! Hehe. We only get cold alerts in winter when it's around -25 or -30.
Wogster, we're just off Finch, between Yonge & Bathurst.

It ain't the heat it's the humidity. Think of it this way, Lake Ontario is at the bottom of a large geological bowl, Buffalo and Rochester are in the bowl as well, what happens is you get cold air aloft and hot air below, the cooler air seals off the top of the bowl like cling wrap, so all the heat, humidity and pollution is sealed into the bowl and doesn't go anywhere, the heat index (we call it a humidex here) rises, the air quality sinks, and riding becomes very uncomfortable and difficult.

Not safe for work
Congrats!! I haven't had a ride this year longer than 35 km because I've been busy. 42.5 km bike day sounds like a great day.
I have to agree that Sept and Oct are excellent riding months in Toronto. Most of the casual summer riders have put away their bikes, during school hours the parks and paths are empty and it's still really mild to avoid a cold nose but not as humid as July and August.
I have some vacation time coming up soon and nothing NOTHING will keep me off my bike.

35*c must be hot for yall. We had several days that were 110*+F. One day it was 115* and someone reported 118* another day. Luckily we are done with triple digit weather for the year, but its still mid upper 90s. I live in a city that is kinda in a bowl like your in. It always gets hotter here and colder in the winter. And it seems like the rains always circle around us.
I can deal with heat. I have a problem with it being cold. I could not deal with all that snow, ice, and freezing weather all the time.
