Ironman Texas 2011

Hey Guys!

It's been a while! I hope everyone is still kicking strong.. i'm still fighting to reach my goals! haha

Well i'm Officially signed up for Ironman Texas and have been training since June..it's going good. I'm headed to The Napa Valley (St.Helena,Ca) for some training and content creation for The Journey TV. I'd love to meet/chat with any Clydesdale/Athena athletes from Bike Forums.

Keep up the great work!!

Thanks,

Chris

I hope you are an experienced triathlete.
If not, see if you can work a sprint, olympic distance and half ironman into your schedule. This will help you build the mental toughness needed for an ironman, as well as give you some clear measurements on how you are doing in your training.

Good luck.

I appreciate the advice.. at this point I've rode over 30 century's, 3 Sprint Triathlons, Crossfit..ton's of 5/10k, etc.. Mentally I'm ready.. but physically i'm getting there (beating cut offs and just handling a full day of pushing it) . ..I also have a triathlete coach who just finished IM Louisville 1 position from qualifying for Kona. This swim was the biggest hurdle for me but i'm getting pretty good at it now. It would be silly to underestimate a IM! haha so i'm going in prepped and guns blazing.

Rock n Roll!

Good luck on your IM! You're right that it would be silly to underestimate an IM. I trained all year for my Timberman 70.3 and it still took everything I had to finish! I would definitely consider doing at least a couple olympics and maybe a half if you can fit them in. Those 10ks and even a century will give you some idea of what its like, but knowing what it feels like to be at the end of a half marathon and still have half to go is something that even experienced runners have problems with.

TechKnowGN - Thanks, I'm on a schedule with a coach.. we have it all mapped out. That's not saying it'll be easy!! haha even the Pro's have race day failures.. but logistically its all mapped out. oh and i have ran further than 13.1.. but ramping up is part of the schedule Thanks.. folks

Sounds like you are already really committed and have a good plan with your coach.

Have a good 9 months training, and good luck!
