2008- May Purchased the Bike
2009- 5/4 1 year of biking and new food plan: 173.5

2010 Start:185.5 (I gained but not that much and am pretty happy with weight, but would like to lose it and weigh about 151ish...size 8 oh and have a spectacular life partner, hubby, man......and a pony.)

Week 2 183.5(-2YTD)
Week 3: 184 (-1.5YTD)
Week 4 182.5 (-3YTD) Ran 8.25 miles on Saturday - WOW!!!!
Week 5: 181.5
Week 6:180 Really? So (-5.5 YTD) YAY ME!
Week 7 180.5 (-5 YTD) Valentines Day.......
Week 8 ??
Week 9 178
Week11: 183
Week 12: ??
Week 13: 183.5 YIKES TIME TO GET MOVIN!!
Week 14: 184
Week 15: 186 - WRONG Direction!!
Week 16: 184
Week 17: 183.5
Week 18: 186
Week 19: 189 (reporting in a week later)
Week 20: 186
Week 21: 185
Week 22: 184.5
Week 23:186.5
Week 24: 186.5
Week 27: 188 (looks bad but it was even worse a few days ago - so I am happy it appears I am at ONLY 188.)
Week 28: 189 (sunday) . Hmmmm starting to workout..so let's see how it goes.
Week 36: 191.5
In reality the past months my food has deteriorated as has my exercise and now I am hoping to get back on the wagon!

Not a great story looking at the history! Being over 200 lbs a lot of my life - it is nice that I have managed to be lower, but I am now hoping to really be back on track. It is hard to believe myself as it feels like Day 1 of a renewed commitment. So I am back on the horse.
I have the skinny jeans hanging in my bathroom - have been strting back riding. 45 mile ride yesterday and a 24 Hour Charity Ride coming up in a month. So I have something to look forward to.

So lets' focus on what I can do today and this week:
Drink More water. Goal: 8 glasses per day Minimum - Cut way back on Diet Coke.
Ride more, workout more. (Workout 3x week, ride 3x week)
Eat well - back to basics.
Monday - 15 min on revolving stairs, 15 minutes on rower, strength trining arms and some core

I do not really like drinking...I like the image - a glass of wine, realxing etc. a beer at the Poker Table - in reality Not worth it...

OK _time to focus on me. It's really about caring about my life and getting out of depression or depressive actions, thoughts, tendencies.

A surprise this morning. Almost a five pound loss. I only weigh in on Monday mornings so it's a guess where we'll be. It felt like a week with little to no progress. So it was nice to see I was wrong. I had a rough time getting on the bike last night and Saturday was a difficult day from lack of decent food choice and getting home too late (no lights) to ride. But I worked hard and put in a few more miles last week in preparation for Saturday. Yep knew what was coming. So I am pleased with things even though getting on the bike is hard sometimes.

The bike isn't as comfortable as it could be and sometimes I just don't feel like enduring the discomfort. I am unemployed and broke so what's needed can't be had right now and in reality it pisses me off. If I make it to the garage, check the tires and get on the bike I finish a minimum ride I accomplish something. Been tweaking the fit to minimize the issues and made some progress but am at the limit of what I can do. So we wait. I could ride more distance if it didn't become painful (or not-numb) after a half hour or so. What really bothers me is riding was so effortless when I stopped in the early '90s. Another in a long train of poor decisions on my part.

Anyway here's the tally.

7/4/10 303.6
7/12/10 299.0
7/19/10 298.0
7/26/10 296.0
8/2/10 295.2
8/9/10 295.0
8/16/10 293.4
8/23/10 290.4
8/30/10 291.2
9/6/10 286.4

Awesome Job!!! Great job of getting downstairs and checking the tires...and riding! I find that if I go downstairs - even mid getting ready and just pump up the tires...I know I will ride. So it's all in the tires .... Anyway - I am just getting back on the bike... and I commend you for doing it! great job onthe weight loss. OK time for me to get the workout outfit on and hit the gym (tomorrow I bike again - giving the butt a chance to regroup). Wish me luck as I plan to do treadmill and weights.....which is a chore and something I do not usually do. So let's get this party started!

Thanks but it's not that big a deal. Just a pleasant surprise. I am at one of the lowest points in my life. No job. No money and prospects are thin. No one wants to hire me because of my age and skills I command a decent wage. Sometimes it just gets to me and despair overwhelms. So actually doing something other than sit and stew is an accomplishment in itself. I find it embarrassingly easy to lose weight. It is important that I do it now while things are so low so I have something to hang on to.

Gee I just read what I typed. Damn that's depressing.

Great idea. I need this again too. I will enjoy having some others doing it with me. I lost 50 lbs earlier this year, and then gained about 30lbs back, so I desperately need to turn this around and start getting healthy again. My goal is to run a half marathon in December and an Olympic distance triathlon in the spring.

Starting weight: 248

Sometimes you just need to take a **** job for a while, even if the pay is not what you would like, just to stay solvent. It's better then holding out for something better while watching your debts pile up, doesn't mean you drop out of the market, just that your doing something else until the economy picks up. I spent over 20 years in IT most as a programmer, then Y2K killed the market, 3 or 4 years later when it recovered all the jobs had been shipped to India and China, because programming is so labour intensive. Took a **** job, been with the company 9 years now, doing something that if you told me in 1995 that I would be doing it 15 years hence, I would have informed you that you needed to seek professional help. I may have to leave it though, as my wife may be getting a better job in another city, but then I'll look for another **** job there.

4/19 - 259
4/26 - 258
5/3 - 257.5
5/10 - 252
5/17 - 252.5 (oops)
5/24 - 249 (Woo Hoo! Breaking 250 is a big milestone for me.)
5/31 - 246.5
6/7 - 245
6/14 - 242
6/21 - 241.5
6/28 - 238.5
7/5 - 236.5
7/12 - 234
7/19 - 236 (oops)
7/26 - 231.5
8/2 - 230

8/16 - 226
8/21 (new weigh-in day) - 226 <damn!>
8/26 - 225.5
9/4 - 221.5

It was a little chilly here Saturday morning so I got out the only two pair of riding tights I have - one lycra, one polypropylene - that I haven't been able to fit in in years - and they both fit!! I checked the labels and they're only Ls. I must have bought them when I was at my lightest (212) about 25 years ago.

So that was a real nice start to the weekend.

Amen I did that too. I had a pretty great salary and got laid off. After a few months of nothing I applied as a temp and made $30/hour less than what I thought I should be PAID...and no benefits. So i humbly started there - they gave me an office they used for storage space and a study carel as a desk....within 2 months I spoke to the boss - took a ton of guts and said....How are you going to manage to keep me? I had no alterrnative, but I let him know I wanted more money - and I got it...So Though I swallowed a lot of pride I got the job. Meanwhile I had put my resume in with a great company and they came calling...eventually and I got my current gig. So hang in there.

Still I do know depression - and justhanging in there is great - and working out does give one a sense of accomplishment!! have a lot of time on my hands these days - and no excuse for not gettign to the gym. So thanks for motivating me.....

Keep showing up here and in your life - and something will come.... YOu wil NOT always be in the same place you are in now!!!

Down 4 pounds this week!! I'm excited but find it a little curious as to why the weight loss has taken off these past 2 weeks. I've been doing a little kettlebell work these past couple of weeks but haven't been riding as much. Now that we're getting a little relief from the intense heat, I need to get out there again.

I'm still focusing on 1200-1500 calories a day and making sure I get my full daily recommended protein grams. My guess is that's what's keeping my appetite in check.

The problem is I cannot even get a s*#t job. I had a temporary minimum wage job while someone was out on maternity leave. That wasn't much better than making nothing. I was treated poorly, shorted hours and they screwed up the withholding bad. I was actually relieved when it was over. I didn't make enough that it will really matter but man sometimes you gotta wonder if it's really worth the effort.

Where I live has a great deal to do with it.

Not all s*#t jobs are created equal, they have some benefits as well:

1) If you have one you hate and you just quit and get another.
2) It doesn't matter what your doing, because it's just to tide you over until something better comes along.
3) If it's part time you can string a couple together to get more money.

First thing you need to do though, is determine if your "real" job still exists in the form you trained for. Your age isn't really an employers concern, it's how expensive you are. It's more then just salary, a lot of us old pharts need skills upgrades, we are likely to have more time off, so the over all cost of an older employee is much higher. Next are you tied to a particular geographical location and is there work in that field in the area, if your not tied to an area, then what about going somewhere else?

last year around June I got a new bike and started riding again. I used to ride a lot. I've been watching my diet a bit but still have ribs, steak etc once in a while...and have been riding quite a bit during the summer. In Winter I did a fair bit of working out at a gym. I've dropped 60lb so far. The hard part as we all know is keeping it off. That worries me but I just try to keep riding and watching a bit of what I eat.

Had a really great week. We went camping this weekend and I took the mountain bike for what I intended to be a lot of riding. Unfortunately on my first ride I went OTB and landed hard on my right shoulder. The next morning at the ER they told me I had either (hopefully) a deep tissue bruise in the AC joint, or a torn rotator cuff. I'm in a sling until it gets better or until I see my PCP on monday and he orders a MRI if it is not better by then.

However even with that I had a great weekend and I'm itching to get back on the bike.

I've been away on vacation and thus I'm not surprised that sitting in a car and eating fast food has had negative effects. Not as bad as last time, but I was already trending the wrong direction. My road bike is still broken, but now we're back into the routine grind. Since vacation is done, perhaps I'll get an opportunity to fix my road bike, if not I'm going to make myself spin on the exercise bike, but I really want to put that off until the snow falls.

Sorry I missed the weigh-in yesterday, but I am still here. I am going bonkers not riding much at all this last week. My son had his tonsils out last week, and I've wanted to stay close to home for him. When I'm done here, I'm going to hit the trails. I gained one pound this week, but it will be gone soon enough.

Alright Missbumble you got me off of my duff and back into the forum... Thanks for that by the way. I am actually starting Day 1 of my "off season" program today to begin to ramp up for a 3 day stage race in March. That being said... 1/1/10: 230lbs. 1/31/10: 224lbs. In between I have no idea. Today 9/7/10: 219 lbs. My goal weight is 185 lbs. by 3/15/11. This should put me right on track. That being said I will will vow to be a solid WEEKLY contributor to this thread to pull some motivation out and hopefully put some back into the group.

Ok, ok, thanks for the message. I've been thinking about getting back on the wagon and I guess there is no better time than the present. Weight was 248.5 this morning. Started 2010 at 255, got down to 235 in February than climbed 4 weeks in a row back to 240 and that made me quite posting and watching my food. I think I went too harsh on the diet for January and February that it wasn't sustainable. Anyway, I've set a realistic (hopefully) goal of 2 lbs per week from now until the 1st of the year to get down to 215. That will be 1/2 of what I want to lose. Then the final 30 lbs down to 185 I'll work on in 2011. I'm 6'1" and believe 185 to be a good weight but won't know until I get down around there.

Exercise: try to get at least 1/2 hour per day of walking with better days of an hour of riding or other cardio exercise.
Diet: increase raw and cooked veggies, increase beans, reduce grains/starchy veggies to about 1 cup per day, eliminate processed foods for a while - basically follow Eat to Live. Eliminate diet soda and other drinks - stick to water and unsweetened ice tea.

I've been a vegan for 2+ years but eat too many grains and soy products which keeps me from losing weight.

EXCELLENT! Glad you are back - looking forward to getting your motivation. March = totally doable!!!!

Today is Day 2 for me - have a headache...and stomach hurts form situps. So no workout, but tomorrow I ride 40 -50 miles inthe morning with a group. HUGE for me cause I am taking my fatter self out/back into the world and riding. No apologies - just being me. I feel a little embarassed to have let me go and the biking, but I will go risk riding with a group - and hopefully being able to keep up.
