Highest weight: 304.5 on 5/17/04

Skip ahead though multiple losses and gains to this April when I got serious:

4/5 - 264.5
4/12 - 262
4/19 - 259
4/26 - 258
5/3 - 257.5
5/10 - 252
5/17 - 252.5 (oops)
5/24 - 249 (Woo Hoo! Breaking 250 is a big milestone for me.)
5/31 - 246.5
6/7 - 245
6/14 - 242
6/21 - 241.5
6/28 - 238.5
7/5 - 236.5
7/12 - 234
7/19 - 236 (oops)
7/26 - 231.5
8/2 - 230
8/9 - 231 (oops)
8/16 - 226
8/21 (new weigh-in day) - 226 <damn!>
8/26 - 225.5
9/4 - 221.5
9/11 - 221.0
9/18 - 218.5
9/25 - 217
10/2 - 219 (oops)
10/9 - 224.5 (vacation - lots of Texas BBQ and pie)
10/16 - 217.5
10/23 - 217.5
10/30 - 215.5

Back on track - woohoo! I just need to keep toeing the line, and make a special effort to stay active, now that it's getting chillier. In addition, within the week darkness will be descending on us much sooner each day. My delusional 30-something co-worker, who insists I will be joining him next year for a relay triathlon, has actually offered to pay for 6 months of gym membership for me so I can do some spinning classes through the winter. Maybe I'll take him up on it.

I might need to sit these out until I'm able to exercise regularly again. I forgot how much a rib injury takes out of me.

Salty corn chips did me in last night, I knew when I was eating them that'd I'd have to post the shame today. The good news is that I can shake that water weight by not eating salt, the bad news is that I still haven't gotten back in a regular exercise habit. However I did ride the exercise bike 2 nights last week which is twice as much as the week before and 4 times as much as the couple of weeks prior to that. My goal this week is to watch more tv. That may sound odd, but my exercise bike is in the living room with the tv, and I feel really guilty sitting there watching tv when I could be exercising at the same time.

Week 2 - 295 lbs (start)
Week 3 - 291.5 lbs
Week 4 - 284.4 lbs
Week 5 - 282.5 lbs

Week 9 - 280.0 lbs
Week 10 - 278 lbs

Week 12 - 274.3 lbs
Week 13 - 272.7 lbs
Week 14 - 271.8 lbs
Week 15 - 272.5 lbs
Week 16 - 267.9 lbs
Week 17 - 269.8 lbs
Week 18 - 269.4 lbs
Week 19 - 271.2 lbs

So I managed to shake the weight I put on last week. The disappointing part is that I would actually be closer to 277 today, except we had a pizza party while we were watching movies and handing out candy last night. I'm not worried about it though. Halloween only comes once a year. Besides - two good things happened last night. I controlled myself and only had one treat size Kit-Kat and one Peanut Butter Cup. Plus, my buddy Brandon finally figured out that the new Sayre isn't going away anytime soon and he decided to dig his old bike out of the garage. We went for a short ride to help diagnose any potential mechanical issues and it's in my garage right now for said repairs. But guess what that means - I made another convert. Boo yah!

I guess I should start posting here. It will be a good motivational tool.

Jan 1 2010 -> 275lbs
Aug 1 2010 -> 250lbs
Nov 1 2010 -> 245lbs

Goal 1: Jan 1 2011 -> 235lbs

Goal 2: Jan 1 2012 -> below 200lbs

I've been stuck at or around 245 since August and I'm having trouble getting past this hurdle. 255 was the same and the only way I could get down 10 more was to train for a half-marathon and do it. I have to start running again, but it's been hard since the race because I injured my foot really badly. I gotta get back into it and cut back on the calorie intake.

irclean, I wouldn't discount the benefit you might gain from joining WW yourself. I followed one week behind my wife in joining, and had decidedly mixed feelings about going those first couple of weeks, but I've come to actually look forward to the meetings and the comaraderie and shared sense of purpose the meetings engender (of course, a lot depends on the quality of the leader).

In short, I find they provide me with the motivation I need to keep on track during the times my wife and I are apart, and there's no one around me to be accountable to but myself. And let's face it, that's the majority of our waking lives unless you happen to be a couple that works together through the week.

Thanks for the insight, CraigB, I heartily agree with you. I already have a support group/network in place; I've been drug-free (including alcohol) for nearly twenty years... hence the name "irclean". The majority of my peers in that group can relate to my struggle with food, as there is a tendency for recovering substance abusers to turn to food/sex/gambling as a substitute. I've already asked the other members in my group to call me on my behavior if they catch me ordering a donut when we go out for our post-meeting coffee. Luckily for me the principles that I've learned to apply in my life to keep me clean transition well into helping me with my weight. I just had to hit my bottom, weight-wise, which I feel I have. The biggest difference, of course, is that one does not need illicit drugs and/or alcohol to survive, but food remains a necessary evil. I can't just not keep food in my house anymore, but I can avoid bringing my triggers (sweets, processed foods, etc.) home with me. My wife helps with that.
