I know it should not be necessary but IMO there is no downside to extra affection & attention in a good relationship. There is only stronger bonding...........

Yeah, coworker sabatage is deadly (but in a different way than you describe). Everyone brings all the extra halloween candy and sweet things they want out of the house to work and leave it around everywhere.

I took all of my leftover Halloween candy into work with me, but gave it to the girls who work across the street at the coffee shop. They're skinny young things. They can handle it.

There isn't food at my work, really, but the bike shop always has doughnuts, pretzels, cheerios, or candy sitting around.

My fiancee has been supportive, mostly. She doesn't really understand enjoying exercise or riding on the road, but she doesn't get in the way, and works out at the Y more often than I do. She certainly never pushes food on me. I'm very lucky to have her.

For a while she belonged to Curves, a women only gym with a lot of structure. They give out points for accomplishments that you can redeem for something, I'm not sure what. You can get extra points for bringing cake or cookies with you to share. Talk about sabotage!

Yeah...this is why commuting is so great. You can rake a half-hour detour but she can't be upset because it was on your way home anyway

Dunno if it counts... My son's mother and I still live together in the same house, but we no longer have a personal relationship. I'm always at a loss of what to call her.

Anyhow, she has not been exactly supportive. She is prone to make comments. If I say I've lost another 2 lbs., she says "You'll find it again." or something similar. The other day I was busy punching ANOTHER extra hole in my belt and she grumbled and groused about it.

Now she's sort-of trying to do something about her own weight, and because of my success (28 lbs. so far) she's asked my advice a time or two, but for the most part won't actually try any of my suggestions. She has however, started biking to her aerobics class instead of driving.

Mostly I just ignore her attitude. Maybe it's cruel, but I like it when my success irritates her.

My issue is my wife Isn't a frequent cooker, though she is exellent, her cookin seems to be more about the quality than the quantity. An me, between my riding schedule and my 60 hr work week, I usually go for the quick easy dinner. And she hates to work out. It doesnt obther me, but I know it gets to her sometimes. She wants to get up and out, just lack motivation.

I'm a little surprised that no one has turned this one around. What would you feel like if your wife lost a lot of weight and sculpted her middle aged body into something a 25 year old would be jealous of? I imagine a lot of us would be pretty excited about it, but might some insecurity crop up?

I would love it if my wife lost weight.

As far as insecurity, it wouldn't get any worse. I still think I don't deserve her, but it has nothing to do with physical characteristics.

I dunno... I think my mindset would be more like, "Yes, I am a Clyde, and yes, I'm hittin' that!"

/agree completely...

That said, I married my wife for her - weight and looks change with age, hopefully her humor and mind and her enjoyment of life won't ever change...

With all my health issues, *she* got the short end of the stick here, not me. She does not wish to ride like I do, but neither does she try to make my efforts any harder/ That said, I'd rather we had the same feelings about biking, as I'd rather be with her riding, then riding without her...

heh, heh... My wife and I have an understanding. I can lose all the weight I want and she can get all the boob-jobs and plastique-surgery she wants.

Not to take this serious thread any farther down that particular road, but I think that whole concept extends beyond Clydedom. I've often said that it's evidence of God's existence that beautiful women often marry ugly men.

That's an easy one to solve. Stay late one night, and throw all the candy away.

I do this all the time with cake, pizza, candy, rolls, etc etc etc....

Nobody seems to notice that everything disappears overnight. Everybody assumes it got eaten by somebody else.

The wife is trying her best to be supportive, but she also mentions that she wants to spend time with me and the family together. This means when I take time to do other things (like ride) it goes against that a bit. Hopefully I can get her involved soon so we can do it together.
