Single Speed/Fixed/3speed for Big Boy

Looking to buy a new single/fixed/ or 3 spd for tooling around the neighborhood. Ive ridden BMX and mountain bikes my entire life....never owned a "skinny" tired bicycle. Any suggestions? Im not looking to break the bank, but I dont want to bend the rims the first time I ride. Thanks. BTW, Im about 6ft 240lbs

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Fixed or SS wheels are stronger, due to the lack of having to dish the wheels to allow for a derailleur and gear cluster. If you live in flat country, any SS/Fixed would do as long as you et the right frame size, honestly. If you want a bulletproof build, get Velocity Deep V in 32 or more spoke drillings, though, or Weinmann Deep profile wheels if you don't mind a little more weight, or I'm riding my FG on Alex X2100 wheels.

3 speed would have the same lack of dishing as a SS or Fixed.

Tom's right, get some strong, well built wheels on whatever frame. I ride an IRO, but plenty of mfrs. now make SS/FG frames.
