First Snow Ride...Anyone else partake?
Last night,we got almost 5" of snow locally and so today I had the opportunity to work at home. The bonus being that when I wrapped up work at 4pm, I suddenly had a bonus hour of riding daylight (no commute) - but what about the snow?
I could'nt resist and got out there on the MTB on local streets. Sure was an experience. Kind of like riding 10 mile on a flat tire - the back wheel was all over the place and it was a real challenge to keep running straight. It was actually a lot of fun and great exercise due to the extra drag of the snow - highly recommended!

I've been lazy, just got back into riding last week.
Rode 3 of last 4 days 15+ miles per day, avg -15C to -17C or approx 2F to 0F , but some pretty nasty windchill and accompanying snow drifts.
1989 rocky mountain stratos + magicshine light + nokian mount & ground tires = 24/7/365 riding.

Erwin - Im near Seattle, WA. I enjoyed reading your blog. Especially the part about the "ruts". That was a issue I had. You kind of get locked into a path because car tires create the walled runways that my wheels just got attracted to.
gbg - What do you think of the magicshine light? Im tempted to get one but have never seen an actual photo of what the light lights up! Presently I am using a 200 Lum flashlight that gives me 1 hour on hi and 1:30 hours on "flash". I used a cheapo mount and attached it to my helmet. It actually works very well and is a pretty decent setup for a total of $15

I usually get 2 2hr rides on medium ( more light than I need) in cold -15C and below temps.
That is with the battery in an external pocket.
I get a lot of comments on the trail on how bright it is (even on medium), one guy said he thought a train was coming
