Gina On Some Mild Hills

Every once in a while I make a video that I really like. Maybe I'm just a romantic suckuh when it comes to Gina.

Well she had been feeling a little under the weather but her determination to get back into the hills surprises me. She's nto fast and doesn't race up the hills but she gets there. Must be the GMR rides but today she asked for more during the ride haha! One climb up the hill used to be her max.

Each hill is about a mile in length.

DO IT! That would sound good

Just don't do it on a climbing video, pretty please? Raw still rules!

Yes, it is! Lots of hills and in the background of some shots and pics, you an see the mountains where we ride GMR etc. Funny, nothing but hills where we live but back in 05, I'd do 30 mile rides, 3 times a week around this area. Or I'd ride my MTB up local trails. Plus I'd do mountain rides up GMR on the weekends. Then I'd do the flat trail only on the weekends. But some posters called me a flatlander, maybe cause I didn't have a camera back then..

This area in the vid is very popular with cyclist. Nice course and plenty of parks to refill water etc.

Hahahaha! Funny, Gina never wanted to climb. She did on these hills and almost died the first few times. Then she graduated to GMR, the 8 mile climbs (2200ft), then to the village 21 mile climb (5000 ft). Eventhough she wasn't really feeling all that well, she did this ride yesterday. I figured she'd do one climb then be done. She did 3 then said, "I'm not pushing hard cause I don't feel all that well but these hills aren't anything like I remember".

I don't use a Garmin but these are the hills on the ride according to the mapmyride site. I've heard mapmyride is not real accurate on sections of less than 1/2 mile but this is what I got for the climbs. Max 9% on the 1 miler and 14% max on the shorter climb.

Well, if it is even remotely accurate then those climbs are very similar to the ones I ride regularly around here. Definitely capable of causing some good freighttrainism if ridden hard enough

Yup! Gina is your height, 5'4. When we met, she was 124 lbs. Never thought of riding etc. back then. She'd kill me if I told her weight. But if she got back down, shed kill me on the climbs, maybe even the flats. She says no but she's got a natural small upperbody and big leg muscles. Very strong. If she really wanted to, she'd "bullet train" up the hills.

When I was in peak condition in 1991-1993 I was 117 lbs. I tried MTB racing for a few months in 1993 and gained 5 pounds of muscle. I was 122 at my best fitness level.

I did pretty well with the mtb thing until I had to upgrade (still have the medals and a plaque to prove it). Then it turned into a sufferfest that wasn't worth it to me.

I'm sure you can guess what part of a mtb race I was best at

Thnaks, she was pretty much cruising just to make it (cause we missed riding the wekend, rain). Though I can tell in the vid where that 14% grade was though.

Fuuny, I was thinking of some heavy breathing video but she wasn't.

I want to see a raw video of you climbing Fargo Street in LA. It's a 33% grade.

Might need something a little lower than your 39/25 though

Yeah! First off, I don't know where Fargo street is and I'm not looking for it!

Second of all, I've done a 22% on the standard and that almost killed me but I made it! So 33% would be too much!

Third of all, I'm still not looking for Fargo Street!

Okay, okay. I'll settle for a raw video of you climbing that 22% grade with your current gearing
