First real movie - Frozen Tundra ITT

Lesley and I participated in our first ever race on 2/19/2011. It was an individual time trial on the Silver Comet trail near Atlanta. The race was advertised as 10 miles but in reality it was 12 miles (6 out and back).

I was very proud of both of us. We were both nervous but did great. We both averaged around 20.5mph.

Here's the video I took of it. I used my Kodak PlaySport camera and edited the video in Windows Movie Maker. Very easy process.

Looks like a fun day. Not my style of fun, but it was good for you.
Way to go.

20.5 average? That's great! Your wife is starting out like Gina when I first started the videos. She warmed up to the recoreder quite nicley. Now she smiles, and waves haha!:D

20.5? Wow!:thumb:

Great Job!
20.5..... Wow, that's fast. If you don't mind:
Do you think you can run that fast for say 20 miles?
How long have you been riding?
Do you remember how long it took you to get to that kind of speed, for instance how long until you could ride 18 (not in a paceline)?

As you can tell I'm a bit obsessed with speed :)

I've been riding since February of last year but I didn't really get into it until April of last year. The fastest I've averaged riding just 20 miles would be close to 19mph. It took me a few months of riding quite a bit per week to get my speed up. When I first started, 16mph was the holy grail and now 17 to 18mph seems to be my sweet spot. I also started working on speed intervals and my cadence.

Group rides do help too. You can get in some nice speed training with the right group.

As they say, just keep riding. You'll get faster. Also dropping weight seems to have helped too. I was 285lbs when I got my bike and now I'm 216.

Good job and nice video:thumb:

I just got my Kodak Playsport too. So far I'm very happy with it. Like you said, editing in Windows Movie Maker is easy. With some help from Mr. Beanz I was able to get rid of the annoying black border around the first test video I made. Under the "Project" tab you're supposed to select "Widescreen". It defaults to "Standard" normally. My dumb ass didn't notice that until Beanz pointed it out to me. Doh!

My only complaint is the battery status icon disappears a few seconds after you press record.

I bought 3 extra batteries so I'm ready for Sunday's climbing ride. I'll post a test video from that ride. The descent part should be a good test of the EIS.

How are you guys finding the battery life on the Playsport? I got mine last night, played around with it for an hour or so and still had a full charge! I guess I need to try it in "real world" environment - that would be tomorrows Seattle Chilly Hilly :). Just as well the camera is waterproof its snowing heavily right now! Oh well, it is called the "Chilly" Hilly.

You guys have a mount idea for the playsport? Looks like its so close in size to a cellphone size that there should be an easily adaptable mount out there.

Very cool TT video! Thats the kind of stuff you want to record to show your grandkids in 20 yrs to prove that you were'nt always an old codger :)

I will find out tomorrow. I usually ride for 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours during these climbing rides, and I record every hard climb. Occasionally I record descents, but not often. I have a total of 4 batteries (1 in the camera, 3 spares). Tomorrow I will definitely be recording a descent for the test video;)

I'll be using the same mount I've been using, the Pedco UltraClamp

Anything over 20 is great, in my book. At my fittest (when I was a youngster of 30) I just barely topped 20 in a 10 mile TT, and it was tough. I hope to get back to that level, or better, this year. After all, Sayre has thrown down the gauntlet. ;)

Sounds like you had a great time. Keep it up!
