    Help me pick a bike....:)

Hi guys, well Ive found a few bikes that fit my budget - I need to buy one bike to fit someone thats 5'6 and another that I can use as an "extra" bike for friends and it could fit anyone from 5'5 to 6'0....so what size frame is best?

Here are my choices of bikes - help me pick the best bang for my buck:

Ironhorse Maverick 1.0 (but says the bike doesnt come with petals, is this normal?)

    Fuji - Odessa 2.0

    Diamondback Outlook

    Diamondback Lustre

    Diamondback Wildwood Citi

    Kent Trail Machine

    Schwinn Solution

    USED:

    Raleigh SC200

Cool...I like spending money...especially other peoples. Get the red one!!

Ok, just kidding. These are all very similar, I would look for the lightest one that FITS you best. And pedals are a personal choice, but most LBS will give you a set of basic pedals when you buy a bike.

I'm not personally familiar with any of them, so I can't offer an opinion on which specific bike would be best. But as far as getting a bike that will fit anyone from 5'-5" to 6'-0", you're going to have to compromise. All I could suggest is you go for a frame that would fit someone in the middle of that spread, with the certain knowledge that riders at the extreme ends of the spectrum are going to be riding a setup that is something less than ideal. If you know that it will be used more frequently by those at one end vs the other, you might choose a model/size that's on that side of the middle ground.

The only other suggestion would be a bike with a quick release at the seatpost, so saddle height can be changed easily on the run, but even there you might need to be careful. I've known too many QR seat post clamps that are prone to slipping, especially under the weight of Clyde/Athena riders. Plus they tend to encourage saddle thieves when the bike is parked and unattended.

For your bike, I'd suggest actually riding a few of them and seeing which one you like best. If they all feel about the same, buy the red one.

For your guest bicycle, look for one in a Medium (17-18'') frame. That's about middle ground, but your friends should be able to make it work with a saddle adjustment or two.
