Had a lovely ride tonight with the gang and a few new faces at our wed night group ride. Did 20 miles with a average of 11+ mph. I did experence some side stiches about halfway in the ride and made me realize that carrying only gatorade in the bottles is not a good idea.

I did 9 miles today on the trail I normally ride on.
For some strange reason I am deftly afraid of grasshoppers...and on the trail there is about a 2 mile stretch that is packed with them. The freaking things are everywhere! I almost fell off my bike today cause one jumped up and hit me in the neck. It's probably funny to see a 390lb grown man flailing and swatting at a grasshopper but I think its sad. Good thing no one was around to see me doing that.
The only way for me to over come this fear I have of them is to just keep riding the trail. So I'll be out there again in the morning when they are at their worst and I'll probably still be randomly flailing my arms swatting them away as they jump around me. Looking like a dummy.

Had a nice ride yesterday evening after picking up the bike from the LBS (rear wheel trued and spokes tightened). Unfortunately the problem with the loose spoke came up again after doing some 10km... will have to take it back and looked at.

Rode my bike to the photography studio I'm taking care of and back, about 25km. Rained the whole time, both ways. Completely soaked, the only dry piece of cloth on me: the strip of waistband on my shorts under my belt.

Great ride, beautiful weather, no wind (I don't know if I have ever ridden with such little wind) and I felt really strong. Only bad thing was in the middle of the biggest climb (in my area which is pretty small compared to those near some mountains) on the steepest section a horse and buggy turns out from a driveway right in front of me cutting me off. The "driver" clearly saw me and went anyway so I had to stop completely on the hill and wait for them - they were all smiles as they passed by me

Otherwise the ride was great and it was the best time I have had on my usual 30km loop.

I wasn’t feeling able to ride very fast today, and didn’t want to slow down my usual Saturday group ride, so I took the Pig and myself on a nice slow exploratory cruise westward. Got to Ashburn Road, and felt OK, so took Hay road to see where it went. At first, a bit trepiditious as the road began to narrow and loop up and down hill, but it soon widened into a 4 lane road. Passed a road I knew and went to the end and connected to another road that I knew intersected with the W&OD trail. Again, it narrowed a bit and cars were not generous, but I soldiered on. Came upon a flock of Turkey Buzzards feeding on a deer carcass (and they were not at all disturbed at my passing).

Finally got to the trail and wanted to try the little mountain bike trail at mile 31. The Pig ain’t a true mountain bike, but old and sturdy and with treaded tires, so WTH went on it. Not really rough terrain, but very narrow and rocky; I had to walk at a few points but saw a bright blue finch!

Got back to the W&OD and rode to Ashburn for the BBQ at the Carolina BBQ- today’s special was beef brisket. There were about 20 bikes parked outside! Rode on home, stopping at the Wegman’s for some groceries for the next 2 days. I may go out tonight to ride around the DC monuments at night (haven’t done that for a while), but as it is rode 22 miles.

I had a great ride this morning, we had some beautiful Florida weather today. A definite plus since we had some bad t-storms the past few days.
I rode my longest distance to date of 12.8 miles and I wore bibs shorts I ordered from love2pedal.com for the first time ever and the difference was night and day.
My legs felt stronger today also my normal average speed was way up and I was up 2 gears as well.
Overall, great ride, great day!

bought a bike this morning(https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...efore-purchase), and tried it out a second time (first time was riding it home) at the big park. Two times around and home again came out to 3.89mi. It felt like I expect a new bike always does, at least to a clyde who doesn't have much experience- a bit awkward, but thrilling. My wrists are a little tired after the 45 min ride, but no more so than my 15 min ride home earlier and I'll bet they won't bother me next time. I'm happy. Tomorrow morning I think I'll have to go again and see if I can double it

Here are a few snaps of my ride this morning. It was only 5 miles but half of that is all up hill. It was short only about 25 minutes but it was fun. Here is a view of Turnagain Arm.

Tonights ride was the best yet with my wife. I installed the cloud 9 seat for my wife on the specialized and what a difference. I brought two 14mm wrenches on the ride so I can adjust the tilt of the seat. It seemed that two clicks up was the ticket for her. Between the seat and learning proper gear selection, she had the best ride yet. We avg about 12mph on the flat, 8mph on the uphill 3% grade a mile long and a max speed downhill of 19mph. Maybe not Phillipe Gilbert but the best she's done. Total miles 6.75 also 1.4 miles more then the last ride but also a higher cadence too. The return back on the MUP was 2.3 miles at 3% that even started to wear me down but I still avg 8.5 mph as my wife started to slip back.

Best part is the new wider seat did it's job and she's not as sore. Now time to watch the Tour on Versus replay.

This mornings ride was 22.29 miles, my longest ever. Not much traffic out this early in the morning, but I was buzzed by a truck pulling a utility trailer at only .43 miles, pissed me off but what can you do. I did have a flashing red rear light, Cat Eye. 50 oz of water is just barley enough. The first 10 miles sucked, but once I was warm man did it feel good, I was in a high and was able to spin out a nice pace for the last few miles. I am loving cycling.

Went about 115 km through a lot of scenic countryside today. Got chased by a couple of dogs again. I wasn't expecting it in either case and the sneaky mutts scared the beejesus out of me as I was just cruising along very much enjoying the day and then out of the blue a dog on full bark and chase mode. Not the best for someone with a questionable ticker.
I had to stop in both cases to make sure I didn't crash into the dog or visa versa as being clipped in and having that happen might be ugly.

Part of the route was around 30 km of closely spaced hills all around 8-10% grade ,,, up and down one after the other like giant moguls. None were terrible long it was just they didn't seem to end. It was a work-out for me especially on a hot and humid day.

I took 4.7 litres of water with me and used every last drop.

An ok ride, the arm sleeves helped keep the sun off of my arm, but they are a bit hot.

I had to go to the doctor yesterday to get something to put on my arms and legs as they are itching...

40 miles in 2:45. not great time, and frankly after 30 I was just pedaling to get home.

I forgot my gloves, and now I have sunburnt hands.

The sun in California was in full force today.

I broke a spoke, but had it fixed, started thinking about a more robust machine.

I rode 150km + 17km on my bike yesterday. Rod from Warsaw to Łódź (Poland). Here's a map of the main leg of my adventure. After getting to Łódź I took a train home where I rode around, went to a party and rode home.

Anyway, the ride was... hard. It got up to 32C (90F), I drank about a gallon and a half of water along the way. Got sunburned because I literally forgot about being out in the sun for a long time, it didn't used to happen much. Anyway, my first century, feelin' kind of proud this morning.

I mostly post in the commuter forum, but since on the weekends I'm just an out of shape girl on her bike...

Woke up late today. (I should have just stayed home.) So I had to drive to the MUP instead of ride there like I planned to meet a friend. I'm nursing a sore knee and she's recovering from a cough so the plan was to go slow and steady which we did. Super humid but it was early so not too hot yet.
At one point I dropped my water bottle, I just missed the cage so we had to stop so I could fish it out of the dirt. Who doesn't love a muddy water bottle? Then trying to get going again my chain jumped and the pedal ate into my ankle pretty good. Small scratch and big bruise. Yay.

Then later, we're riding side by side on a little downhill and I just lost my balance or focus or something and went sliding off the trail. It was so smooth she thought I did it on purpose and I had to tell her to give me some space so I could jump back up. So stupid!

Moral of the story? If you oversleep and you have to rush around to get to the MUP like you're late for work... don't do it! It won't go well!

I had to drop off the rental car this morning in Philadelphia, at 30th Street Station. I then took the train to Norristown....

... and rode home the 20 miles. If I'd had more than 3 hours sleep I'd have done the whole 36 from Philly.

Met up with a childhood friend I haven't seen in 10 years. Great 12 mile mtb ride in 100+ heat. I did realize at about mile 9 that I didn't eat enough for lunch before I left. Oh well, lesson learned. Still a great ride.

Mine was exhausting.

I scoped out the TT course for the upcoming Indy Tri. I rode it (2 12.5-mile laps) with the other guy in our relay team, even though he's doing the swim and run, not the bike. I think he wanted to "motivate" me, as he's hyper-fit and uber-competitive. I felt like a slug alongside him, and even though he assured me I should ride at whatever pace I wanted, I couldn't help but push. The first lap was done at a 16.7 mph average, which toasted me pretty well. The final average after the second lap was 16.5. I was absolutely wasted, and he was fresh as a daisy, ready for an afternoon of water skiing (coming off 2 hours of sleep last night, to boot), though in all fairness I have 22 more years under my belt than he does (as well as about 30 pounds), and a physiology that seems stubbornly immune to strength training, while he's a college-wrestler poster-boy. I was, I admit, disgusted with my performance. When I got home, though, I realized this ride was a full MPH faster than my last attempt at a 25-mile TT training ride, so I feel better, if still tired, now.

Went to the gym and swam today, but yesterday I did a 45 mile loop with the middle 20 being my usual off-road "Thrilla in Woodinvilla" route. The trail was pretty crowded, what with the nice weather.

While technically not today's ride, it was my ride Friday Morning......I had to leave to go out of town for a wedding so I am posting today.

I rode 28 miles to the north and west of town. The first leg out of town is along river road. The Menominee River hugs most of the road so there are some great early morning views of the river. then I crossed over to Hwy 577 using Sobieski Road. It is a short cut across but a challenge as there are a couple of hills, easily the biggest within the distance from town. The first hill looks ominous enough but was not a really difficult climb. There are really only a few hills around here but since the next century has several real hills, I must get some time in hill climbing. Here are a few photos taken on the way out of town...

My riding partner today, just me and my shadow -

Water break @ Chappee Rapids -

Hey big hill, I haven't even started the climb and already I hate you - (it looks worse in person, halfway through a ride)

oh, BTW, the graveyard near the top is a nice touch! Really works on the ol' mind.....

I will be riding this route again and I will get more scenic pics next time. I was in a hurry, did the 28 miles in a little bit under 2 hours, including the couple of stops.

Today’s ride:

Good solo ride from the house to the northern trail head. While taking a water break my friend Jim rode up so we rode together back to Panera bread. I pulled about half of the way back and we were riding at 18 to 20 mph but when he took a turn at the front I could not hold on. Jim is tall and thin and rides a very top end Trek, so me at tall and a little heavy and riding an old steel bike I wasn’t too embarrassed. I could hold on, on the flats but the little inclines took a toll on my legs and lungs.

Ride statistics for: 07/11/2011

 Miles today: 55+
 Mileage this month May: 405+
 Mileage this year: 5484+ (68.5 % of my 2011 goal)
 Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +10
 Over/under riding days July 2011 vs. July 2010: +1
 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1746 miles
 Average miles per ride this month: 50.7
 Average miles per ride this year: 42.8
 Number of rides over 50 miles this month/total ride days this mo. 6/8
 Metric Centuries this month: 2
 Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 8,000: 2515 miles,
 A 9/10 thousand mile year is not out of reach. I should reach my goal about mid October.

Tomorrows plan: 50+ mile ride with Dick Davidson weather permitting. I want to be at 500 miles by Thursday night.
