I have a trek 7300. Be sure and check out a Trek 7.3 Fx. I don't do Trail riding and don't need the front suspension.

Get the Giant Rapid. I am a Road Biker but my co-work own a Giant Rapid and that thing is fast. He keeps up with us Roadies with no problems. Both of us are 255 pounds.

Jethro, I've read where you and others thought they would like the 7.3 Fx to get away from the suspension. I discussed that with my local LBS - He has 4-5 bikes set up for me to test ride today. As bid as I am - I can't imagine the suspension really doing anything for me?

I own a 2010 Giant Suede DX. It is bout a $450 buck bike. I started riding it at 379 and the only problem/change was the need to swap out the original wheels to 36h ones - done free by the bike shop as 'warranty'. At this point, I have over 650+ miles on it and no other issues, and it has a suspension fork. It has some adjustment in it (no lock out), but I do not even have it on the stiffest setting! I never *feel* it bottom out, but I can notice *some* bouncing at high RPMs (due to my poor cadence).
I do a lot of 'towpath' riding, so it makes the ride nicer. Yes, it adds weight. But, to me, whether my ride weighs a low 24lbs, or a hefty 42lbs makes no difference at my size of 360lbs. Lose weight in the engine, not the frame is my thinking. The stock low gearing was just by luck...

I just want you to try out a very similar bike without suspension. For me it's a distraction and makes the bike feel loose. It's kinda weird in that I have a MTB and the front suspension feels natural on that bike.

Didn't mean to hijack this thread - but really appreciate the info shared. I'll make a new post.

I really like my Electra Townie. It has served me very well throughout my descent from 445 to 275. I have had zero issues with broken spokes, hubs, etc. Yes, another more traditional bike may be a faster ride, but I am still liking my Townie.
