using the Endomondo app on my iphone.

I have found this to be pretty cool. Is there anyone else that uses this.

I was going to purchase a pretty expensive cycle computer but after trying this app on my phone I was pretty impressed.

The only thing I can see so far that I don't have on this is a cadence counter. I'm sure I can find an app for it but then I would not have the endomondo app to run and keep track of my workout.

I have it installed on my Blackberry Curve. The calorie count it gives is different than what my HOUR monitor gives, same with the MapMyRide app. I've only used it walking so far though.

I use it on an Android phone too -- started using it at first for hiking/walking, but now log my commuting bike miles - seems pretty well-behaved running in the background so that I can listen to podcasts and occasionally consult Google maps while it's running.

I use it on my Droid. The calorie thing is off but otherwise I'm happy. If I keep using it I'll pay for the full version.

The full version has the low-power mode, btw -- a good idea if you do rides of more than a couple of hours

While I greatly appreciate Endomondo, I have found slight inaccuracy in either it or the Android Tracks application when both are run in tandem. I am trying to get down to the root of the issue but my cycling computer and watch are siding with Tracks right now. I typically see a slightly lower time with Tracks.

That said, I always begin my rides exactly the same way, using the countdown just before im ready to ride off and feel that the consistency in using endomondo is an incredibly valuable tool to us clydes.

Interesting, I would guess they are in contention for the attention of the GPS? I sometimes call on my maps app to get directions (I am at heart a commuting rider), I wonder if that's the secret as to why sometimes the Endomondo trace is "choppy" -- as if it's on low-power mode and losing detail in the map for some portions. Might be an inherent limitation n the way Android's internal "location service" works....

The choppy aspect is a factor. If you are going around a corner and it just captures the entry and exit of the corner it loses the distance you went around the curve. I don't like that but I accept it because it isn't a large factor.

On balance this corner-clipping seems rarely to be a big deal -- I notice it only on rides of a kilometer or two.

Here's my afternoon commute: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/jLzvTz08lrc I can see the failings but it gets the overall timings right, which helps me plan my day. Funny, I felt really sloggy by the end of the ride today but the timer shows I was doing my typical clip on the clear stretches. Having that objective "eye" on the ride is pretty useful to me, my own perceptions get pretty colored by the last part of any ride.

What's your avatar pic, WonderMonkey? At first I thought "rat brain" but it seems too sparse... digestive tract?
