Generally I am on a bike path and there are plenty of places to lean a bike against. Out on the open road out in farm country there isn't as many opportunities. What I'll probably do is ride and see how things work out and go from there. I'm all about removing a crutch to see what is reality.

That's what I did when I used to climb radio towers...I knew I was going to be up there a while, so I minimized my water intake that day.

I don't know how high you have gone but I've seen video of people who have gone way the heck up there and it makes me shimmy just watching the video.

I'd love to try it some day just to see how far I can go before my bladder empties on its own.

Generally not more than 100 feet, not the many hundreds of feet a lot of these guys do. Even so, I never just went up and then back down...if I went up, I was there for a while. Even though I wasn't up that high, I still had to occasionally do some gymnastics that were rather alarming for a guy my size.

Nice! Do you know offhand what size those tires are? They look chunkier than a typical road tire.

Tongue was planted in cheek..... seriously though it is a fine line but if you are able to balance your water intake to only compensate for sweat loss you will not need to pee as much. When I'm off the bike I pee lots. On the bike I do not but I do sweat plenty. I drink more water than most cyclists I ride with and it still is probably not enough. A bonk from glycogen depletion is bad, complications from dehydration are much worse and can be deadly.

Nice looking bike btw!

Yes! I was just playing along.

Last year I started to do longer rides and I was able to build upon my experiences of hiking. Not enough pee = bad and too much pee = bad as well.

It's got the rights holes (whatever they are really called) to be ready for a rack and two spots for bottle cages. I'm going to put a rack on it right away plus the bottle cages. I'm still arguing with myself on what do on the front. I'll probably do a handlebar roll for "things" but I'm still mulling it over.

My hybrid is back from the shop. I'm going to take it out for a spin to see if I can make it very far without a flat.

Also it is very windy today. I'll enjoy being out but it's going to hurt.

Just a bit over 3 miles but all went well. I'll go for a longer ride tomorrow before I declare it taken care of.

3/15/2015

Good ride. Went 11.12 miles at a 14.9 mph pace. Wind all around me. I'm going to keep it around 10 miles for a few more rides.

Going with my goal of 150% of last years total miles and using 275 riding days starting March 1st, you can see that I am 94.86 miles off the pace. The weather and NOT HAVING A BIKE has hurt that. To get to my goal I need to average 8.26 miles a day. When I get to commute I'll gain some ground.

Just discovered Strava and spent a bit of time transferring last year's and this year's rides. Noticed there are some segments near me that I think I'm going to try and take over. Should be fun. I expect the person who had them then will try to take them back.

"Not Fun" weather has moved in but not so much that can't get out and ride if I'm willing to fight a bit of wind. I'm taking my bike to work with me tomorrow and doing a lunchtime ride. I'm going to try and get in miles where I can. I've also planned an overnight camping trip (by bike) for next Saturday to force some miles. I've camped off my bike but only when pulling my Burley Travoy. I'm going to try and get my stuff down to where I can do it entirely from a handlebar back and rear rack.

I am on the beginning stages of an August of 2015 charity 1,000+ bike tour. From Ohio to Arlington, Texas.

If you want to read about it I'm posting over in the touring forum: Planning 1,000+ Mile Charity Tour For 2015

Wow that would be a huge step in a year! Just out of curiosity, what charity would you be riding for?

The exact charity is still in question but I'm going to push for a children's charity. I've been 300lbs in recent memory and by the time I would go on this I will be way over 100lbs lost. Heck I'll be there by August of this year probably. Losing that weight has allowed me to exercise more so why not tie that in? Some sort of children's health and wellness, obesity, etc.

It could be any of several and I'd be happy but there are some that I would refuse to be a part of.

Two rides today. 12.5 miles on a lunch ride and 16.27 for a commute home. That's 28.77 miles total for the day, furthest one day total of 2014. I was going to ride back into work tomorrow morning but I bent a rim close to home. I was able to finish but I won't risk riding it over 16 miles back to work tomorrow morning.

Also, my new bike is in. I pick it up tomorrow near my work. I may ride it home tomorrow, not sure.

Bent rim?
Hit something or broken spoke?

What were the wheels?

I don't quite know just yet but I'm taking it off the bike to find out more tonight.

I had Continental Gatorskins no them. 700x28's.

I just picked up a new bike (thread coming) so I'll have time to research. I'm probably going to get a beefier rear rim as I'll use this bike for small tours and such and of course I'll NEVER be light.
