Someone rode a bike today for the first time in 20 years!

And it was FABULOUS! I only rode for 20 minutes because my butt was already hurting and I didn't want to overdo it on my first time out.

About 1/4 of the way I realized my legs were on fire because weren't extending enough so I raised the seat about an inch and OMG what a difference. My arms felt better, my butt felt better and Man did my legs ever feel better.

I had a little trouble shifting to get over the overpass and wound up walking my bike up the incline but I wasn't worried about it. I'll get the hang of it. I also realized what a difference the extra weight makes on the downhill. WOA that was FAST.

Can't wait to do it again tomorrow!

Sounds like you had fun and even learned a little something along the way. Enjoy the ride, and the fitness will come soon enough.

    Congrats!

20 minutes is twice as much as I could do when I started a little less then a year ago. Took me a couple of weeks to work up to twenty minutes riding. So don't let that get you down. Let your body dictate your pace. Longer distances and more time will come as they come.

It will take your body time to get used to the seat, and very likely your comfort level on the seat will change as your body looses weight, As I lost weight I found the padded seats that came on my bike were less and less comfortable. But don't bother changing seats until you have ridden for a while.

    Good luck and enjoy!

Fun isn't it, for the first time after 20 years. were you a little nervous at first? And if you were I hope it went away rather quick.

Good luck with riding, and I hope you keep at it. read what most of these people have to say, its some real good advice.

I had a 28 year layoff myself before I started up last August. I remember feeling like I had an alien butt-probe and my legs feeling light and wobbly at first but it all gets easier and fun every step of the way! I did 50 miles today and my butt feels no different from when I set out this morning. Great fun!

You got it - If you have any soreness then consider riding every other day and on the day in between just around the block for a stretch - Watch your hydration - It takes a little time to break in your butt so that riding no longer hurts - How long? - Well I talked to a guy who had been riding for about 60 years and he said any day now...

Good job. For me, the saddle sore problems went away after a few times biking. Kudos for noticing and taking the time to raise the seat, it really makes a difference.

I still don't see pics of the new bike. Remember to bring water and to spin, not mash. Your knees will thank you.
