New 300 pound rider
Hello I'm a new rider I'm 6,1 300 pounds I lost 50 in about a year from dieting a little bit and exercise now I want too loose a lot more weight faster and thought bike riding will be the best way with of course a healthy diet. I just bought a raleigh talus 3.0. What are your opinions on this bike. Do you think it can hold me on some trails. I really want to do some light trails then later on advance to some more difficult trails. Should I look onto getting a better bike or you think I should just get a better wheel set. What kind of rims should I put on my bike that's not going to be a lot of money and where should i get them from. Thanks in advance

Congrats on the new bike. Just looking at the bike I would say your good to go for the light trail thing. I would ride the hell out of it and find out if there is a weakness, I bet you would be surprised its gonna hold up to what you can throw at it at this point in the game. I am 297 down from 306, I have a Trek that I have jumped, crashed, ridden up and down some crazy stuff and I haven't had a single issue so far. Go and have fun and enjoy being outside with your new ride.

The only caution would be to make sure that the tires are inflated to their rated maximum to help support the weight.

The only problem I had when I was over 300 pounds was breaking spokes on the rear wheel, it had 32 spokes and I went to 36 spokes no more problems. the other problem was finding a seat that was a little more comfortable, and I was able to do that. I went form 329 pounds to 224 pounds . However had some injuries that resulted in taking some time off and now Im back up to242 pounds. But Im also back to riding my bike, and hopefully with some will power I will get back in the 220 pound range again. It seems to require constant dedication. Good luck with your new bike.
