is it worth trying to move weight to the front of the bike?

is it worth trying to move weight to the front of the bike? Given that distribution is uneven with more on the back, I was thinking it should make sense to try to remove weight from the back of the bike and balance things out a bit.

I used to keep my tool bag hanging off the back seat , mount my pump on the seat post, and carry my clothes etc in a pannier. now I hang the tool bag and pump from the top tube and carry all my stuff in a handlebar bag.

on a given day i probably carry 5-10# of stuff, some days more, so this should have the effect of balancing out the weight distribution a bit.

what I'm not sure of is whether it really makes a big difference at my weight (260s). anyone else do this?

With just you on the bike: Front 105 lbs: Rear 155 lbs.

What would you gain with more weight on the front?

I don't think it would make any noticeable difference other than perhaps a slight change in your wind drag.

If the weight moved to the front was a lot, at some point it would change the handling characteristics of the bike.

If it makes you feel right do it. I know on loaded tours, I put 2/3 of the cargo on the front. The bike handles better and I'm less likely to have broken spokes.
