I was just wondering if they make a folding bike for larger people? They tell me at the LBS I'm too large for them...your opinion ?

The Montague bikes are full size folders that claim to be the strongest in the industry. Their website doesn't list a maximum rider weight the way some do. https://www.montaguebikes.com I don't own one (nor have I ridden one), but I'm eyeing the Boston 8.

Depends on what how you want to use it.
I have a 26" wheel folder. I needed a bicycle that would fit inside my car, be easy to fold, and reasonably priced. It fits that need. What is it's weight limit? I don't know and didn't ask. My Clydeness isn't that big of an issue. The few times I've carried it on a bus, it becomes a bag of 'bike parts'. Never been refused service.
If you need/want a compact folder, a weight limit could be the limiting factor. Your LBS should be able to provide a manufactures specification for weight limit.

Dahons its the only folding bikes they sell. The Max weight is 230. I am errrrrr.....a wee bit over that. LOL I wanted to get a folding bike cause it would make life a bit better for me since I do take public transportation only. I was looking for maybe a 24 inch wheel size but I think that may be to heavy for me to lift up the stairs to the RR? Im a strong gal by no means a weakling. No barbie doll here LOL But with my weight its hard for ME to get up the stairs.

If you don't mind spending a bunch of money Bike Friday makes a number of bikes for people over 250. But it is a custom upgrade. https://www.bikefriday.com/bicycles/faqs

I am a great Dahon fan, but use them rarely because of overweight (have bent 2 wheels). I personally think the steel-framed could survive up to 250 lbs, but at least a rear wheel must be built up with stronger spokes. Bike Friday, yeah, but also look at a Swift; solid frame for strength and standard parts.

The Xootr Swift is rated for 260# but I rode it without any problem when I was 280. and with gear.
it is a fabulous bike, rides just a "regular" one but folds enough to put on the train or subway. it's not like one of those that folds down to the size of a wheel, but you can't do that without a hinge in the frame, which makes a bike wobbly.

I have a Clyde friend who has a Bike Friday Tikit and he loves it, and has had no problems. He's not an uber-Clyde, probably around 220 or so, give or take.

I hate Dahons after my son's tore at the weld and crashed him into the pavement. I am 225lbs and have a 24" wheeled Union Voufiets. It's extremely comfortable and takes my weight very very well. I use it in the winter on snow because the bottom bracket is nice and low-- easy for me to get my feet off the pedals and on to the ground should I start to slip on ice. I don't know where you can find one in America, but if you can find something similar, they are so awesome! He's a pic of mine: https://ronajustine.blogspot.com/2011...on-folder.html
