Athena-sized leg warmers?
 

Yeah, I know, most of the US is broiling -- I'm worried about how my cats will handle a 100 degree day when my AC is broken -- but I'm also thinking ahead to my cycling vacation in Quebec next month. The average weather data shows highs in the low 70s. Sounds great to me -- but I suspect that I'd like to start the riding day in long pants, then move to shorts as the "heat" comes on.

...and that suggests leg warmers or knee warmers.

Anyone know a place that sells them in Clyde- (or in my case, Athena-) friendly sizes? Pants size is a women's 16, "relaxed cut" (ie, large thighs), if that helps.

It shouldn't be that cold overnight - We have similar weather here & I ride in shorts no matter what time I start in the summer.

As for bigger sizes, I've got nothing useful.

I wear shorts usually down to the low 60's (and probably cooler if I know it will heat up during the day). Usually its my upper body I worry about.

I believe Seattle Forrest made DIY leg warmers from a thrift store wool sweater. I'll see if I can find the thread and post the link.

Not to be a smart pants or rude at all........suggest that you try medical supply houses that sell "Durable Medical Equipment" to find those larger sizes that the main stream stores won't carry.

I'm a size 18 and I buy men's XXL. Almost all of my cycle gear is men's. When I want something more tailored, I tailor it myself-- usually that means taking a man's jersey and trimming the waist inwards so it fits smoother.

I find it's a lot cheaper that way too. Men's cycle gear is almost always on clearance at one store or another. If you don't sew, getting a garment altered isn't cost prohibitive at drycleaning places or alteration shops and will likely cost a lot less than gear made for women at full price.

I am on the edge of lake superior right now with the temperature in the high 60s. I road in shorts when it was in the upper 60s and low 70s and was plenty warm. Sometimes I add an extra shirt and then pull it off after a while.

You may want to try sun sleeves in lieu of leg warmers. They are of the same material without the thermal part. They are warmer, but not thermal. I know I have to wear them in california because of the sun, and would prefer not to.

I have 3 pairs from 3 different companies: Hincapie, Pearl Izumi and Novara. All are 2XL, and all fit where my quad measures 25". Below the knee, they fit an 18" measure comfortably without slipping.
