Awesome Day! Rode with Neil and Will!

Today was awesome. Took the hour drive to SRT to meet up with Neil and we had an awesome time. We met up with Will on the trail too which was neat.

If you are someone who is scared, nervious or worried about what you look like on a bike.... I would strongly suggest setting up a time and place to ride with Neil. He is awesome to ride with, great conversation, and a great down to earth person. Neil made me realize that, at the end of the day, it doesnt matter when you look like cause you are there for you.... your health... and to have fun.

So, thank you Neil for inviting me and thank you Will for riding with us!

That's cool, I just wish i could find someone local who rides. None of my friends want to ride, and my wife only rides occasionally. Anybody around central Va. that wants to ride let me know.

My friends think I'm nuts for riding a bicycle. Of course they're right.

That would be great! I rode with Neil and Will and Will's wife yeserday on the perkiomen trail (I'm the newbie Neil was leaving to meet), you and Chiefisaac should hook up with us to do an official "cheesesteak ride" from the trailhead into the city in August!

Rather than start a new thread, I'll add to this one, since the subject line fits.....

Dougclyde came out to the SRT Sunday afternoon for a ride. As I was getting dressed 40 minutes before and 12 miles from the start I looked out the window to see pouring rain. However, I expected it to be a passing storm, and drove out to the trailhead. Dougclyde was there, and a few minutes later wfournier and his wife showed up. The rain was coming to an end as we set off from Mont Clare....

The group on the Perkiomen Trail in Oaks - left to right wfournier, Mrs wfournier, and Dougclyde. wfournier was recovering from a fall a minute before the photo was taken. Gotta watch out for the wet pavement!

The rain not only reduced the heat and humidity, but it kept many cyclists off the trail. Traffic was very light as we headed south towards Norristown, our turnaround point.

Husband and wife discuss gear ratios on the way back.

Dougclyde enjoying the day.

Hydrating is important.

Usually when a guy says his wife rides, it means she will ride a mile with him once a year and pretends she enjoys it. wfournier married an Amazon, and so he doesn't need to worry about her bike getting dusty in the garage.

The group finished with a bit over 24 miles, and I went with Dougclyde an additional three on Longford Road to the bridge into Phoenixville. Here's what 27 miles did to Dougclyde's shiny new bike:

For what it's worth, I'm working with a group that's hosting a race / fun ride this weekend in Hamburg. I welcome any and all clydes to participate. It is a citizen's bike race and great for entire families. I think my wife is even entertaining the thought of riding this year!

After the event, Neil and I will likely go for a ride in the area. To all you new clydes I say welcome and feel free to come up and do the race, the ride afterwards or both!

The races are either 5 miles or 15 miles, cost either $5 or $15 to enter and begin at 9am on Sunday the 31st. Proceeds benefit Blue Mountain Wildlife, Inc., one of the groups responsible for the maintenance and beautification of the Kernesville Damn area and the Bartram section of the SRT.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but it's the first chance I'll have to ride with these guys till September!

Doug,

If you're looking for someone to ride with, I'm also located in the Harrisburg area. There is a bunch of neat trails in the area.

Hell Yes! with the exception of the ride with Neil and Will and Mrs. Will on Sunday and one short trail ride in Lancaster after work once this month, all my riding is solo road work in Harrisburg and the surrounding areas. I said it before and I'll say it again, all these incredible trails and well-maintained paths in the area were never on my radar my entire life, and I've been here the whole time. It's nice to see some of our "mandatory payroll donations" are going to good use!
I am still a newb and will always be a clyde, so if you're expecting a TdF quality paceline you got the wrong guy...but if not I am absolutely up for a ride my friend!

...and we definitely have to all try a ride down Neils way next month, a Sunday afternoon would be ideal for the "cheesesteak run"...we go down their way from the 'burg, Sayre comes over from Reading, and Will and the Mrs. and chefisaac...we could commandeer the trail and run it out!

Sayre is now in Harrisburg. Doug, you and Bau should ride with him. He sounds lonely. :-)
