Clydes FTW! (Literally)

Last Thursday I raced for the first time in 18 years at the Raleigh Midsummer Night's CX race in Roslyn, WA. Since the last bike racing I did was 18 years ago, and I warmed up with a swim and cooled down with a run, I plopped myself into the Beginner's race. It turns out that I'm not as slow as I thought, and I was in solid running for second place after a half lap was down... and about a half lap left the first place rider got a flat tire and I managed to catch and pass him when he ran his tire full flat and had to start running.
The "official" team write-up is here on the Soft Like Kitten website.

From what I've heard, last year after one of the Cross Club races a bunch of people were having a few beers and decided to form an actual team. The idea was to come up with the least menacing team name possible because there's always going to be a "Team Death Star" or "Team Demon Speed" with black and red kit or black and neon green trying to look as mean as possible.
Who's going to feel threatened by "Soft Like Kitten" in a pink kit?

Plus it's the ultimate win-win kit: If you pass someone, they got beat by someone in the pink kitten kit. If you get passed, so what? They beat a guy in a pink kitten kit. Big deal.

I've been wanting to get into cross racing for a long time. Having a hard time convincing my wife that I need another bike though...

I used to do tri's. Not any more. The only running I do is the barriers and run-ups in CX.

Thank you! We'll see how I do next time against the Cat-4s.

Yesterday, I biked up to Magnusson Park, swam for a while, then paddled my kayak from my old apartment to my new one. Does that make me a trialist?

Nope. I just did the one because it was so many years since any racing at all. I could have plunked myself in the Cat-3 if I wanted to get blown off the course after 3 laps.
