Up to 100 Mile Challenge--August

Who is in?

Last month I started one of the pick your mileage challenges, challenging people to do 100 or 150. I see that the chef has snatched away the 150 and put it in the 200 group so I guess I will be in that group for the month. But there are new riders on this forum and it is still going to be HOT in much of the country.

So, I'll start another pick your mileage challenge for the new riders. Pick your mileage goal and report here. Are you brand new to riding? How about 50 miles? Is it insufferably hot and humid? Try 75 or 100. Unless someone is willing to take this thread over for me I'll stay and cheer you along.

In for 100. Wanted 150, but w/hot August here, that's not likely.

Closing on our new house next week and moving, so getting out to ride might be tough. I'm in for 100 though.

Now we just have to ride some. I've had two days of thunderstorms and no riding since Saturday.

Thats sucks gold. I feel your pain. I couldn't ride home yesterday afternoon because of that. Im glad I didnt try. Between work and home is 3 towns and the railroad was hit with lightening somewhere near rush hour. Thats how close the lightening was. I did make up for it today and rode 6 miles home. That was good.

I'm in for 99. The heat must mean we burn more calories during a ride correct? Got 6.18 in today.

For sure! I rode 8.45 miles today and it wiped me out. It only was in the 80s but I am not adapted to heat. And the humidity was tortuous.

Well, the fishing trip went well, it was absolutely beautiful offshore of Galveston on Sunday. Count me in for the 100 mile club for August. The heat has been unreal. It actually hurt to breathe today, if you can believe that. I was too sore yesterday to ride safely. Today was a blast.

8-2 3.5 miles and sweating my fat umm off.

Big Mont, I spend the winter down in the valley. It will be nice and moderate then. Maybe we can do a ride.

That sounds like fun to me, for sure. We have a really nice long concrete seawall here on the coast in Galveston that I want to ride once it cools off a bit. The first couple of weeks of August will really test you around here. I went to pick up a metal tool yesterday that had been in the sun, and it burned me. Black bike seats are just about as bad. I think I can do a 300 mile month in cooler weather. I may start riding in the mornings for a while. The only catch is riding in the evenings sure makes me sleep good at night and a good night's sleep is worth its weight in gold.

Do you mean riding 100 miles at one time, or a monthly total?

if the former, I've got my first century coming up last weekend of August, so I'll take that

100 miles in one riding, and I would probably need a couple of major organ transplants.

Most everyone here has accomplished that in a month, and I hope to be one of them before the end of this month. It's a little more than 10 hours at my normal rate. Just out of curiosity, how long does 100 miles take if you ride it all at once?

Ok im in, I ride round trip to work = 12 miles. IF I ride 3 days a week I should be able to get to 140. I will let you all hold me accountable for this. Lets see if my ticker posts to this message.

Forgot to add my ride home yesterday. My trip is 6.1 miles, and its funny, but I love the days that I get to add 7 miles to my ticker instead of 6, to keep up with my overall odometer. I count down the days. lol. So counting the days left in august, If I ride 10 more times to work, I should make 120. Maybe I can push past that and get closer to 150! That would mean 4 days a week of riding to work. Lets see what I can DO!~
