Slacking off

My wife and I have been doing real well until about a month ago. We hit that 10 mile point and then haven't been on a bike in 4 weeks. We've managed to walk around the neighborhood (about 1 mile) but no cycling. Between weather (Thanks Irene this week) and rain every darn Sunday the past couple weekends its been impossible to get out. Late nights at work, band practice.... all excuses I know.

A buddy of mine a couple days ago asked if I can take pictures of a Camper he wanted to sell and put it on eBay for him. Sure, why not. I rode the MTB down to the park up the street, took the pictures, and rode back. The next day, my thighs were sore and it felt like I did 25 miles. I went one block down and one block back. So 10 miles with no problem a couple weeks ago and now my legs are burning after a couple blocks.

This is sad...

I was talking with my friend who is a cyclist and did a lot of racing and I just read it in a book that if you dont continue to ride, at the two week mark, you lose 50% of your anarobic (sp?) ability.

Time to get back on the bikes and ride! :) Maybe on a Saturday or evening time?

We were going to ride tonight but after doing a yard clean up of all the branches and stuff that fell from the trees from the hurricane, my back was shot. When my wife got home from work we decided to take a walk down to where the bike trail starts since that road was flooded out and blocked off. We parked about a mile down the road where the barriers were and strolled down to the river. By this time the water was back UNDER the bridge instead of over it.

After taking a few pictures and walking around a bit I went up the road the other way and guess what I found hanging in a tree? A Beach Cruiser! I really want to know the story how someone lost their bike and it wound up between the trunk of the tree. Being the packrat that I am, I had to rescue it from the river. Here are a couple pictures.

I have always heard that skipping two days you start to lose muscle mass and fitness. IDK if that is true, but I do know losing it is a whole lot easier than getting it back. I have been back on bike for roughly six weeks after taking a year off and I still can't seem to make 20 miles.

Just how often does someone who rides ten miles on a casual ride go anerobic?!?

Could be any number of reasons the OP experienced the burn. But last summer I spent 8 weeks off the bike, and I turned in a hundred mile week once I resumed riding.
