Biking to the sea

After our short trip to the south, hubby and I did a trip to the north. We went up to the sea, checked out the dijk (dike) and the sea lion rescue. For the week we did 230+ kilometers which is a new record for me in a week.

There's a bunch more pictures on my blog if anyone is interested ronajustine.blogspot.com We had a blast and I'm dead tired now. I seriously think I over did it. It's been ibuprofen and orange juice for me the last two days.

lol... when hubby and I go out, we are completely self sufficient if need be. Clothes, tent, sleeping bags, kitchen gear, cook stove, foldable sink, food, towels soaps. Most of the campsites we go to are out in the country and grocery stores close by 8 pm. There's no 24 hour Walmart here in North Netherlands

So not only is my bike carrying 220 pounds of fluffy Athena, but another 30 to 40 lbs of stuff. You should see her on grocery day when we go grocery shopping LOL This is back when she was yellow and white.

Yeah.. actually I do. I lived in America for 37 years, 2 years in Germany and now one year here. I feel incredibly privileged to be here with my Dutch hubby. Unemployment is about 4.5% right now and while food and housing costs more here, things are just... lovely. The bread molds within days because there's no preservatives. Food tastes better because it's fresh and local. It's just a different world here and I'm sooo blessed.

Today we took the train up to Winsum then biked 22 kilometers for a museum trip. The first half was in the pouring rain again with wind in our faces. On the way home the sky opened up and was a magnificent blue. The wind was at our backs and the sun was shining. Absolutely lovely to look out over the Dutch countryside.
