Keep breaking seat post pivots

I have an issue, I keep breaking my seat post pivots (where the teeth are that you tighten to keep your seat at a certain angle). Once I have had a failure the teeth on the pivot point seem to have worn off.

I have replaced my seat posts a number of times over the years and i dont buy anything especially cheap, but i dont buy expensive ones either as they keep breaking.

I have a sprung saddle which is as far back as it can go (which is probably why the seat posts break). I only weigh 180 lbs and probably dont carry more than 20 lbs on my back, so I am suprised that I have this issue.

What do i do? are there any especially strong seatposts that are economical?

buy a quality seatpost with 2 bolts, one at the front and one at the back....the one bolt seatposts are much weaker, Thomson seatposts are the gold standard

Economical? As in buy one good post rather than several posts that "weren't" especially cheap? ....Thomson! :thumb:

velo orange makes a great one, 30 mm of setback. Works even better than the Thomson setback model. I have tried a bunch and this one is the best, especially if you ride a brooks b17.

+1 The same thing happened with the seatpost that came with my first LHT. I replaced it with this:

http://salsacycles.com/components/shaft_seatpost/

When that bike was stolen, I got a new LHT and immediately replaced the seatpost with another Salsa Shaft. No sense continuing to buy so-so seatposts.

My IF road bike is fitted with a Thomson.
