That's me! I did the Clarksville Sunrise Century (1,500' of climbing) in 4:05 in 2009. In 2008, I did the Planet Ultra KOM challenge (3 centuries, each w/10,000+ ft of climbing). Each was probably close/exceeding 8 hours. I also did the Assault on Mt. Mitchell (8,000+ ft of climbing) in 8:45.

Of course, the reason is definitely the 250+ pounds I carry around.

Good thing there was no wind or the Clarksville would have taken you 10 hours.

Just a little wind is tougher than climbing humor.

Uphill. Normally, though, what goes down must first go up. Skiers laugh at this rule with their fancy gondolas.

Getting there. It's unbelievable that there's good weather forecast for the next 4 days, too. I will do a short hilly ride this afternoon I think to pump up that number.

It's the new Contour Flex Strap mount. I picked it up at REI a few days before I made that video.

This confuses me. You could bring the garmin, and then not upload the files, if you chose to... I have my Edge with me on every ride, but only put a handful of them on the web, the interesting ones, typically when I go to the mountains. I like having the data, though, and use a desktop app to make maps and to chart speed vs elevation for the rest of my rides. Plus, I know how many feet I've climbed.

Another problem I have is that I get inaccurate readings on the Garmin when it's mounted on the Trek 7000 hybrid I use to ride to Fair Oaks and back. You can see it mounted to the right of the stem in this picture. I'm thinking the shape of the bars may be a problem.

I can't mount it on the stem. It won't fit.
