These last three or four weeks have been a roller coaster. Last week I was up 5 pounds and this week I am down 8 pounds to 286.2

So far for this year, 49.2 pounds.

This week a 1.4 pound weight gain! This is my 18th week on WW, and the 3rd time there has been a small weight gain. It happens every 5 or 6 weeks, I level off and have small gains or stay the same for a couple of weeks. The first couple of times it bugged me, but this time I expected it. The WW website says this is pretty normal though.

So far in my 18 weeks on the program I've lost 26 pounds at an average of 1.44 pounds per week, right on schedule. I've followed the program to the letter, and it has produced the exact results it promised. I'm getting reasonable close to losing half the weight to my goal weight!

My eating was identical to every other week. I've become very "anal" (if I'm allowed to use that term) about points-plus tracking, and have followed the program to the letter. However, through reading articles at the WW website and discussing this situation with others I've discovered that there will be weeks when weight loss levels off, and some weeks where there's actual weight gain; and that this happening is absolutely normal and expected. The "big picture" however is pretty. Through 18 weeks, 26 pounds of weight loss averaging 1.44 pounds lost per week, which is exactly what WW advertises. To my view, I've done exactly what they require, and have obtained the exact results they promise.

trac: My bodies goes through something like that too. A gain, a big loss, a small loss, repeat. It is worse of a curve if I travel for work, which I truly hate doing because it takes me off my schedule.

I've had the same experience. but it usually involves a variation in my schedule, causing me to vary my eating or my riding. Today's weigh in I'm down again. Total of 27.6lbs since Jan 29. Like you say I don't always understand but I'm really pleased with the progress and I'm holding on to the program like I hold on to the wheel in front of me when I ride in a group. I've never gone to a meeting but the program has worked for me. Within the next week or two I'm going below 250 for the first time in more than 10 years and tomorrow I ride 70 miles for my birthday ride. I'm 70 years old and I feel great and I'm losing weight how great is that?

Great analogy. The key is doing what it takes to stay on the plan.
I've never gone to a meeting . . .
Neither have I - I actually believe I do better without all the "support" lol

That is great. I'm just ducking under 250 myself, first time in about 11 or 12 years and it feels great.

I count on the support I get here too. I actually saw a scale register below 250 for the first time in 10-12 years, I rode 682 miles in May and I'm getting stronger every week. I also celebrated my 70th birthday in May with a 70 mile ride

Post surgery (on Saturday) I weight myself and was 18 pounds up. That cannot be right. I suppose I am retaining water and body is stressed?

You taking any meds that might contribute to retaining water?

Eh, I wouldn't worry much about it. Surgery is hard on you. As is oxy. Retaining water is listed as a rare side effect, it may or may not be really a side effect: https://www.webmd.com/drugs/mono-5278...l&pagenumber=6

Hope you ditch the last stones soon.

Gold: You think it is stress from the surgery? I have eaten on target since the surgery and have eaten less post surgery.

No idea. It just seems reasonable as a lay person to guess that the big increase in weight which correlated with your kidney stones and stent procedure are related. But correlation isn't necessarily causation.

Chef, how are you doing? Hadn't posted in more than a week. Broke my bicycle June 10th, Trek replaced my frame and I got it back the 19th and rode yesterday for the first time. Down a total of 32lbs since January 29 and managed to hold it down during the week I couldn't ride. Trek upgraded my 2007 Lemond to a 2012 Madone 5.9 so I got my new bicycle early but I need to get down another 40lbs before I upgrade the wheels. May be forced to buy new trousers soon these are getting pretty baggy

Well, one could say I fell off the wagon, ate the wagon, the horse and left a few bolts of the wheel but could eat those too! lol. I went to a meeting last night in Maryland (traveling for a week) and was up a lot. Not good but to be frank, this week I have grabbed for way too much food. I know I need to really figure out why I grab to just grab. Maybe it is a chef thing, I do not know. Annoying really.

it's been ten weeks, and I've lost 5.5 lbs so far.

This, however, is after a big loss earlier in 2012.

I still expect to get a 10% loss - 26 lbs - in 2012 through weightwatchers, which will give me a total loss of about 40 lbs for the year. I'd be quite happy with that.

I'm not currently signed up on Weight Watchers, I was on the Online program it last year, but cancelled it and then fell off the wagon.

Instead, I've been tracking calories on loseit.com since April and have been following an 1800 calorie meal plan with my doctor's supervision for the last month and a half. For me, I find calorie counting more tolerable then point tracking.

So far, since April I've gone from 315 to 293 as of 6/17 (Sunday is my weigh-in day), for a loss of just around 22 pounds. My first goal is set at 250, then I'll probably set additional 15-20 pound goals as I head down, reevaluating as I go.

Pretty low cal intake but I am not to judge no know any differently so if it works, go for it. Are you a sweet too or salty kinda person?

Sweet v Salty, depends on the mood really. Indian and Thai food are one of my guilty pleasures.

Yes, the calorie intake did seem rather low to me as well being as it is well below BMR, but I've had no noticeable ill effects for the last month. I also do not eat my exercise calories, but also won't be counting energy bars when I eat them while on the bike (making sure calories out > calories in). My doctor really wanted to help me kick start the weight loss since this time I've been really motivated, thus the 1800 calorie plan. I may need to revist this as my intake as my rides get longer.
