Penny4 I sympathize! I have the same issue with work. My two cents is that if I had to go to a gym I would never get there. I have a trainer (in the living room of my miniscule house, but hey, you have to have priorities haha) and ride my bike on the trainer when I get home. I do like watching tv when I do that, because it kind of is nice for wiping work stress out of your head.

I understand the struggles; trust me I do. But you all know that there ain't nothin' to it, but to just do it! One thing that helps me get on the bike right after work is to do as much prep as I can before hand. If my cycling duds are laid out, the bike is ready (except for last minute air up), water bottle in the freezer, etc., it makes it easier for me to go. My family helps a lot, they know that if I plan to ride, the talk of the day will wait until I get back and I'll be in a better mindset to listen and take part anyway. Check my sig line!

Ain't that the truth. And your sig line...

Last year, riding was my release from work, i couldn't wait to get out there. WOrk was not nearly as bad as it is right now, but it's always fairly high stress. Now, the thought of riding just seems exhausting.

I know i sound like a whiner. I don't expect any answers....maybe just the venting helps. Or going back and reading how silly i sound....

C'mon Penny! Get up and ride that bike, take a small step and go ride 5 miles. Celebrate the fact that you did something good for yourself.

Weighed in Saturday morning and was down 1.8lb. for a total of 71.4. That makes a total of 30% of my starting weight. I set a new 10% goal which will take me at or close to my final goal. I went up island for the night and came back today and managed to stay pretty close to plan with a great ride in also.

I'm doing the Map My Ride Tour de France Challenge with a goal of 100 miles. Unfortunately, I've got a vacation planned from July 4 - 10 - right in the midst of the Tour. So, to meet my overall 100 mile target, I set a goal of reaching 50 miles before my vacation and 50 miles after. With 2 days to go before I leave - I've hit 50 miles. I did 10 on Saturday and 13 on Sunday. Yesterday, I did just under 10 but got a flat and had to have my wife pick me up about 5 miles from home. Today, on a different bike, I did 18 miles at a 13 mph pace. I have to say that I've never been so psyched to meet a challenge as this - so I guess it's a good thing. I've never ridden 4 days in a row prior to this. I'll ride tomorrow and Thursday morning, then have to take a week off for my vacation. My weight is not dropping, but at least I'm getting some daily exercise in. I'm going to hate weighing in after my vacation.

Congratulations on the weight loss. As someone sort of just starting out, it's great to see it can be done.

Weigh in day. Down again thankfully. Weight is now 264 for 11 pounds total since I restarted weight watchers and started riding again. Have to say the Map My Ride Challenge is helping me stay motivated.

Congrats dexter. It's good to have something to help you stay motivated. I'm always trying to go faster on my rides (from previous tries). Have a good week.

Well, I FINALLY went for a ride today

I was sitting around folding laundry this morning, feeling lazy/stressed/sorry for myself and was watching TdF and thought, Girl, get off your arse and get out there! Suddenly i was possessed with the thought of going for a ride, even though it was super hot, humid and thunder storms were looming. I just went for a slow roll on the greenway and did 12 miles.
The good news is I still knew how to ride my bike. The bad news....none really, other than it was hot and I was out of shape which was no surprise.
I felt so much better afterwards. Thanks for the encouragement!

Way to go Penny. I know that somedays the last thing I want to do is ride and I slacked off in June but I'm determined to ride at least four times a week in July. My Tuesday morning spinning class is over till the fall unless I want to do a 6:30am class and I can't see that happening. I drop my daughter off to work at 8:30 every morning so I'm going to just come home and get the bike and go. I feel better on the days I ride and I sleep better at night and I find I don't wake up during the night.

Have a great weekend Penny and I hope you get out there again soon.

Thanks karen. Yes, I know what you mean about sleeping better, and just feeling better in general after a ride. 6:30 am is waaaaay too early for me, they would not like to have me in that class, lol. Going for ride after you drop your dtr off sounds much better.

I'm gonna try to go for a another ride tomorrow morning if the monsoon rains hold off.

Have a good weekend.

Since my last weigh in day on 7/3, I went to a fourth of July party and then a vacation involving music festivals. That means plenty of beer and bad food choices. Plus no riding.

So, I decided to skip my weigh in day on 7/10 and hit the road. Did 8 miles Wednesday, 17 miles (over two rides) on Thursday and 23 miles (over two rides) on Friday. That makes Friday the most I've ever ridden in a single day. Plus I chose some hillier routes and Map My Ride says I climbed a combined 2200 ft over the two courses - which is a lot for me. Average speed was 12.7 mph.

I've now ridden the Map My Ride Tour de France challenge every day (except vacation) and yesterday I surpassed my goal of 100 miles. I'm now at 109. Hoping to hit 200 miles now with 9 days left. The leader of the challenge, btw, has ridden 1,775 miles and the guy in 10th has ridden 1,200 miles to put things into perspective.

I'm struggling with the weight and eating though. Have to get out of the bad habits I slipped back to during my vacation.

Weigh in day today so I decided to ride (seeing as gas went up almost 10cents a litre the other day. I try to use my bike for as many normal trips as possible when it's just me going somewhere. Anyway, I noticed I didn't enter last weeks weigh in ( I was up 1.4lbs but kept at my 70lbs lost at least). I had gone for a 57km ride on the Friday and figured most of it was water gain because it was quite hot and I was trying to stay hydrated. I lost 2.2lbs this week for a new total of 72.2lbs. My small goal is to hit my 75lbs by the end of July (or my August 3rd weigh in). I'll have to stay focussed and track everything.

Have a good week everyone.

My Tour de France challenge is over. Was riding around 16 mph and about 10 miles into this morning's ride, I hit a pothole. The bike stopped, I didn't. I proceeded to fly forward landing and then sliding quite a distance from the pothole. The damages - severe road rash on my elbow and knee, bruised ribs and a fractured humerus. No riding for a yet to be determined period.

I made my 100 mile goal though, finishing with 129 miles.

I'm sorry to hear about your crash. I have narrowly missed potholes and thank my lucky stars. I hope you recover fast and can get back on your bike.

Weighed in this morning and was down another .4lb. This makes 72.6lbs....I would like to make my 75lbs by my August 3rd weigh in. Going to ride at least 4 days a week to help the effort.

Cmon, Penny...you gave me advice and now you need the rules -

Rule #
9
// If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.

Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.
No bad weather excuses...get on the bike. You can find the rest of the rules here - https://www.velominati.com/the-rules/

Doh! I'm busted! Not only have I not been riding in the rain, i haven't been riding in the sun either
Watching those TdF guys ride in the rain the other day was inspiring though!

As mentioned earlier, I am still struggling with WW, riding, taking care of myself in general. I've let work get the best of me these past few months.
I need to make some time for myself, cuz it's really starting to get me down. I'm working on it....

How are your rides coming along Tiger?

Good job Karen!!!! Whatever weight you hit on Aug 3 will be an accomplishment!

My "rides" are coming. Im still n that same 1/2 mile, but Im not giving up. Im going to the bike trail tomorrow where it is nice and flat and im GOING to get at least a mile out of that bike if I have to stop and rest 14 times. My mind is made up to go out as far as I can, rest for a bit, then return. We will see how far that will be when I get back to the car. LOL.

Thinking about joinind WW for men, which is why I am even on this thread. How is WW? Does it work n the real world?
