I usually post on Wednesday or Thursday, but was disgusted with myself. Here I am to report my spectacular 0.2 pound loss. Down to 265.8. Woo-hoo.

The weather has been miserable. I rode a total of 23 miles on the only two rideable days of the week. In the process I did make by April goal of 150 miles. Set a goal of 150 miles again for May. Weather will likely keep me off my bike until Monday, in all likelihood.

How's the lake effect been? Sorry, couldn't resist, lived in Williamsville/Getzville for a short time.

Anyway, considering your weather, 150 miles in April is pretty darn impressive.

150 miles in a month is impressive period, regardless of the weather. I know it doesn't sound like much to many folks here at BF, but don't kid yourself - if you put 150 miles a month under your belt in an effort to get healthier, then you have every reason to be proud of your effort. Salute.

Good job Dexter. I've set a goal of 100 miles this month and sure hope I get there. The weather we've had here has kept me off the bike since last weekend.
100 miles is not far but I've only rode 65 miles this spring so far and it was probably 20 or so years since I've been out at all.
As far as the weight loss goes at least you are still heading in the right direction. The wife conned me into taking her out for Chinese buffet tonight. I didn't go crazy but still had more than I should have I'm sure. Weigh In Sunday morning and I will report.

I live South of Buffalo in Orchard Park - in the northern section of the traditional lake effect snow belt area. We had a long, difficult winter with snow from the first week of November until mid April. The spring has been rotten with only a couple of days in the 60s and 70s so far.

I did buy some riding pants, a wind breaker and gloves last fall and I never thought I'd use them as much as I have. I'm usually good to go on nice days with some sun and minimal wind when the temperature is in the upper 40s. But there have been days and days of rain and/or winds blowing in the 20mph range - which is discouraging. The other day I was riding one of my favorite routes and there's a slightly downhill section that I routinely hit 21 mph with minimal effort. On that particular day I was pedaling as hard as I could into a stiff wind and could go no faster than 11 mph. Brutal

Looking forward to some better weather at some point.

Thanks for the support everyone.

One of the reasons I have decided to document my progress or lack thereof is for the camaraderie and support. But also to let others know that there are guys like me and some others here who work as hard as they can, occasionally slip up and keep plugging away. For me, an April with 150 miles is a monster month. I'm 57 yo, 265 or so pounds with a full time job, 2 kids at home, a huge back yard that needs maintenance and a boatload of home projects to do. I don't have the time or ability to do what I see others do as far as distance. Sincere congratulations to them but for me, 500 to a 1000 miles or more in a month is not in the picture. I used to be somewhat intimidated by those numbers, but now I'm happy to set what is a reasonable goal - for me - and work as hard as I can to reach that goal. Just gonna keep chipping away, I guess

I missed a couple weeks of posting - mostly because I had some unfavorable results and did not want to start a pity party. I just can't seem to lose weight as fast as some and if there's a weekend with a party or gathering - I seem to gain 5 pounds overnight.

At any rate, I back to report that I've actually lost weigh over my time away. A whopping 2.4 pounds - but I'll take it. I'm now down to 263.4

This past week, I did one of my mini challenges. I rode every day that the Tour of California was ongoing - which meant I rode 8 straight days. Most in good weather, but a couple where it was cold enough to wear my riding gloves.

At any rate, I did manage to do 72 miles over the consecutive 8 days. Even did one day of 10 miles at 14.7 mph - which is very fast for me. I'm usually a 12-13 mph guy. Unfortunately I crashed on the last day and had to limp home. Got some road rash on my knee and elbow - nothing like last year when I fractured my upper arm and had some very nasty cuts and abrasions on my knee and elbow.

Looking forward to riding again this weekend after a couple of days to rest and recover. Kind of stiff even today.

Scales said 260 this morning. I gave back 3 pounds I had lost last week. Turned a holiday weekend into a holiday week and that doesn't work!
Back after it on Tuesday! Enjoy the holiday weekend folks.

Hi - I'm new to the Forum. I joined WW on May 12th, and lost 4 lbs (I'm currently 261 lbs). I'm riding 10k (+/- 5m) every lunch hour, and it has made all the difference.
I'm keeping track of my rides on Strava, which helps a lot. I keep track of my food and my exercise, and it is turning into a nice little routine.
It's nice to see other cyclists in the same position! I'm not a fan of the WW forums.

My sister is doing WW. She has dropped about 70 lbs & is 6 lbs from her goal weight. I tried WW three times & gained weight.
Congrats to all of you on your success!

Sam,

Welcome to the Clydesdale thread on the Bikeforum.

Also, good luck with WW; it can be slow, but it's easy as weight loss programs go, and effective (I've lost 60+ pounds). Have you tried the Guys on a Diet (GOAD) forum?

Today's weight was 254.4 and that's 28 lbs total loss since starting. It feels good to be back on track.

I'm here to report that I've lost another 0.2 pounds since my last post on 5/21. This sucks, but I'm not going to give up trying. since the 21st, I've ridden 105 miles over 8 outings. I made my may goal of 150 miles by riding 156 miles. I've got a goal for June of 175 miles and a minimum of 15 rides. Hoping for the best.

Sounds good Dexter. I feel like I have hit a wall with the weight loss as today I weighed exactly what I did last Sunday. I've decided since my wife ordered pizza tonight I would have a couple beer and let my hair down.
I really want to get this weight down more but I'm feeling a bit wore out. Tomorrow is another day and the I weigh in again on Sunday.

Keep working hard Dexter!

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this uphill, against the wind ride.
