I Joined Weight Watchers

I'm a commuter (I usually post in the commuter forum here) and decided to sign up for Weight Watchers. Today will be my second day on the program. It seems very well organized to me in that it's not just a diet but there's a lot of information also. Since I've been commuting on my bike (about 6 months now) I've lost size (I don't know about weight, I rarely stand on a scale) and have gone from XXXL shirts to XXL, and I feel a lot better and am more mobile, however I still have a problem with food and want to understand it and control it better. Anyone else here use WW?

Congrats on losing!

Did the weight watchers, the nutri-system thing with no success (gave the nutri-system food away, tastes like cardboard.....yuck). Have been working with a nutritionist for about 14 weeks now...............started at 252 and weighed in this morning at 224. Seems the wife and I react way better to a one on one situation. We see her every other week, but contact her whenever we have questions. When we meet, it is much more than getting weighed, we find out fat loss, muscle mass gained, things to do, different foods, how the foods act on the body, things like carbs versus protein (need some of both), effects of different exercises, etc. Have learned a ton more than the, excuse the terms, "canned" or "generic" programs.

That said, if WW works for you, by all means keep at it!!! It is the end result we are looking for, how you get there is different for everyone.

I was a member for a few months. Really liked the points+ system better than the old one. Just make sure you eat healthy in conjunction with tracking points. They run a pretty aggressive calorie deficit, and if you fill it with unhealthy food you will be hurting.

Cheers.

I've been on WW since October 18, 2010. I've lost almost 143 lbs in the 15 months since. The plan works very well if you're honest with yourself and motivated enough to stick with it. I like this plan because it gives you a more healthy approach to eating real food. There are no required pre-packaged meals to buy, no cleansing, no fasting, etc...
My wife and I joined together. She's enjoying just as much success with it. She's down over 75 lbs as of this morning and under 200 for the first time in a very long time.

Thanks for the testimony and encouragement! I want to lose "only" 85lbs

Using WW online for men, I went from 256 lbs in March of 2011 to 195 lbs in October. One of my coworkers who was morbidly obese saw my results after the first couple of months, joined WW, and he has dropped from 311 lbs to 256 lbs (still losing weekly) since last June. He wants to reach 170 lbs, and I'm positive he will reach his goal.

I can't say enough good about WW. The points system helped me look for food where I would get more bang for my caloric buck - more fiber, more nutrients, protein, etc. In fact, I just started back up hardcore in order to get down to 175. Losing 2 lbs a week.

Losing weight is a lifestyle change. WW helped teach me what normal people should eat, and how to limit my portion sizes. As with any realistic diet program, your results are determined by your effort and smart eating choices, so always keep that in mind.

I thought aboout doing the weight watchers but didn't think I could afford it. Instead my wife and I bought a couple of cookbooks called Taste of Home Comfort cookbook diet. We stared portioning all of our food and counting calories on Livestrong.com. It has been rough at times but i have lost over 50 lbs since September.

Just joined WW. Today was my first full day into the points system. Let's see how it goes. Lots of good stories here. I need to shed at least 200lbs. Good luck to all.

Good luck to you too! I'm starting my fifth day, and sticking with the plan is not very hard. The points+ plan awards bicycle mileage - riding at 12 mph or faster awards you 3 points for every 10 minutes in the saddle. Riding slower is 1 point every ten minutes. I'm not stretching the facts when I say that I'm eating about 1/2 of what I was eating beforehand, but I'm comfortable.

Be very wary of this, if you're the type who tends to eat the points you get from exercise. I've been through two cycling seasons on the program, and in my experience, that ratio of points-to-time-in-saddle is waaay too high at the speeds many of us ride. Most of their other activity point values seem pretty accurate to me, but the 12+ mph cycling points are much higher than they should be. If they shifted that cutoff between higher- and lower-speed cycling from 12 mph to somewhere near 16 or 17 mph, I think the point allocation would be much closer to reality.

I take the actual speed figures they give with a grain of salt. I interpret them to mean the difference between easy riding and intense riding. For example, riding into a 30 mph headwind on a commute averaging 9 or 10 mph with a 160 bpm heart rate sucking air is a 3, compared to rolling down a mountain pass at 40 or 50 mph might be a zero - depending on how many chipmunks you have to dodge. The WW plan asks us to be honest, so I'm using an honest assessment. I understand what you're saying, though.

I count my activity points but never use them. I also try not to dig into my weeklies either. Just how it rolls for me but right now I have 69 points. That might change when I get lower in points.

I've been using the activity exchange, but not the weekly. Still, I'm actually eating less than 1/2 of what I was before, but I'm actually quite satisfied and don't feel hungry. Today will be my fifth day on the plan.

Good job Jay. I would also pass on a tip that was passed on to me from Craig: Go to one meeting and see how you like it. The meetings ate great and the diversity of instructors and their background is amazing. One class I took on Sunday.... the gal lost 106 pounds. Amazing.

Week one complete - I lost 3 lbs, 82 to go. Looks like the program works for me, and if I lose 2 lbs a week I should disappear in August lol
