Large man down <insert splat sound>

In honour pams post about her fall

Took a nasty fall riding along a bike path to night , I have plenty of lights but silly pedestrians with no lights, on a blind corner i swerved to miss them hit some mud on the path and went down. Think I have twisted my right knee ,but my helmet took most of the impact on the ground .

also have a slight concussion, not my first wont be my last.

Bike looks OK managed to ride a bit more but had to stop and walk it as I was a bit dizzy.

So pedestrians with out lights should be shot in the knee caps and left to die ....

Also will recheck this post tomorrow as i am sure it hardly makes sense

edit: oh and i killed the clip on my right shoe bleh 107 bucks i have to spend

Where I live, Pedestrians travel in packs and feed only at night because there's a bounty on them, lol. Sorry about the fall but glad you weren't more seriously hurt. Speedy recovery.

Well I hope your cob webs clear and you dont have to spend anymore money on your bike. I carry extra red flashy light that I buy real cheap at walmart. I give them out ot the folks who walk at night without any lights. Funny things is they dont think its an issue...Here's your sign!

On our MUP the cyclists tend to be much more brain-dead and rude than the pedestrians. Weird, but true.

Sympathies about the fall, injuries and expenses incurred. May those pedestrians all get a foot fungus!

Well, you know, I literally feel your pain!!! My head hurt for over a week. My doctor told me that's not good so watch yourself, especially after the head bump. Doc said headache after a day - needs to be checked out (Oh OK I went in after 2 weeks!).

I am sending healing thoughts your way... those sent to me seemed to help! Take care!

Too bad about the fall, hope you heal quickly but IMO, you were traveling too fast for the conditions, dark and a blind corner.

If you fell hard enough to ring your bell, inspect your helmet very closely. They are usually only good for one hard bounce.

I was riding on a short-ish MUP (about 10.6 miles end-to-end) last night, and thanks to the unseasonably beautiful weather, it was jam-packed. Most of the cyclists were riding decently for the conditions (a couple of jerks weaving to-and-fro) but there were 2 particular groups of peds that were hogging the whole lane or walking down the left and screwing up the flow. Always have to be on the look-out.

Sorry to hear about the fall it can happen to anyone.

Don't take the bump on the head lightly, as Pamestique noted, you should have it checked out.

All the best with a speedy recovery.

Ditch the helmet.

Look to see if the clip on the shoe can be replaced instead of replacing the pair.

When riding at night, you need 2 kinds of lights up front - those that let people see you, and those that let you see what's ahead (with some side spill so you can see where you're going as you turn).

Avoid MUPs. Especially at night. Especially those used by pedestrians.

Frankly, I gave up on the MUPs in my area. My city has some really really great ones. I loved walking them, and riding them is a real joy - when the paths are dry, the weather is nice, and they aren't being used by many other people (pick any two... can't get all three at once).

P.s. - get better. See a doctor if any pain or dizziness persists past the first day. And get back on the bike.

Sorry to hear about your fall mate. I know there are plenty of people walking that path on a weekend in the daylight but I'm surprised that there are pedestrians there at the time you are on your way home. It can get really slippery there after a bit of rain. Once all those leaves on the path get soggy watch out !!

You should be able to replace the cleats on your shoes without too much trouble. Try

Walking on the left I agree is a bad situation, but as far as hogging a lane, that's perfectly acceptable on our trail. Posted rules say simply to stay in the right hand lane except to pass, and peds have the right-of-way over everyone except motor vehicles at the street crossings. When my wife and I walk on the trail, I do it the same way I bicycle on a road. I take the lane because if you don't, 90% of the cyclists will try to squeeze by when it isn't safe to.

Sorry to get on a soapbox, but cyclists' behavior on our MUP makes me ashamed to number myself among them.

Is it the side clip - something that, I assume, ratchets a strap closed or something? I'd do a google search of the shoe name and manufacturer and the word 'parts'. And check the home page of the manufacturer. Even if you can't find replacement parts on their web site, you can shoot them an e-mail and explain what happened.

If it's the cleats on the bottom (much less likely to get damaged in a fall), then you can replace them at any bike shop.

That is exactly it, was looking at it before it should be replaceable .

@craigB i understand where you are coming from, around here i see a lot of rider with no lights , not helmets and no dam clue about road rules. I try to be the exception

I agree. I am just as likely to be running on a MUP as biking. I get mad at anybody's rudeness on a public pathway, regardless of how they're using it.

Also, I shouldn't have said the one group was hogging "the lane"... they were spread across the whole (rather narrow) path.

From the sounds of things it's a very good thing you had your helmet on or a cracked skull would be a much larger worry.

Glad you're ok(?) so get better soon.
