    My first "real" ride!

I had the best ride ever yesterday!! I've decided to consider it my first "real" ride. I'm not counting the other 3 since getting my bike because a) I looked like a complete inexperienced idiot, b) felt like a complete inexperienced idiot, and of course c) I was pretty much close to death within 20 yards of starting to pedal. Yesterdays ride counts because a) I didn't have to get off and push up hill, b) the park was not busy no people to dodge and there were no cyclist to look like an idiot in front of, and c) cuz it was just that friggin awesome!

Me and my youngest son ended up riding 5 miles, and I could have done more if he wouldn't have punked out on me, lol

That one ride made me feel like I wasn't stupid for spending the money I did on my bike and that I have the potential to really become a cyclist (someday). I feel like my goal of becomming commuter is possible!

Hahaha! I remember my first ride, 2 or 3 miles while doing loops around the area. Who would have thought after 15 years I'd have 70,000+ miles.

Here's to hoping the same for you!

I know I'm shocked myself considering I literally did not make it a mile last week. (different park though) It's funny how I never noticed how hilly it is where I live. I mean I am near the mountains but still why couldn't I have taken up riding when we lived near the coast. Anyhoooo the sun has come back out, hubby is home to watch the kids, and I'm off to park!!!

That's just GREAT! Keep up the good work.

5 miles is incredible after so short a time, so don't down play the accomplishment. I think that is one of my problems. No matter what distance I ride, the thought goes through my head, 'But it's ONLY 30 (or 40 or...) miles'. It's something I'm really trying to work on. So, don't listen to the 'yeah but's or 'It's ONLY' voices in your head.

Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.

Now go do it again, and congratulations! And yes, if you have a bike and ride it, you are indeed a cyclist.

you need to drop your training partner he is holding you back. It seems like his diet has him bonking out after 5 miles, and the day before he should carb load on mac and cheese to keep up, and maybe instead of one carry two sippy cups of kool aide to keep hydrated. Also have your training partner flip his stem and cut off his streamers to get more aerodynamic. The pokemon card in the spokes also cause a bit of drag when not held on by the correct clothes pin.

*this all is assuming your son is under 7 yr old
