I love my evening rides...Mmmm bugs!
As a single parent with 2 younger kids, I am lucky to get any time at all to ride. Yesterday the kiddies went to their cousins for a b-day party and spent the night. When I got home from work, with no one at home I was able to get in a nice evening (left @ 7pm) ride on the local MUP, The Macomb-Orchard Trail. It goes through some pretty nice farm country. The bunnies were out in full force. Saw several deer, one of which stood her ground right on the middle of the trail until I was nearly on top of her. Up near Armeda I watched as a hawk dropped down over me from behind and snatched some little critter off the trail about 50 yards in front of me.
I never see anything like this on my daytime rides.
Oh, yeah, and I ended up devouring about a pound of "no see ums" as well. Who says you need to invest in protein bars.

I have not had the flying protein diet on the bicycle yet but yeah those buggers find your nose and mouth like laser guided bombs. I must have gained 10 pounds riding through cattle/farm country before I switched to a full face motorcylce helmet)

I had wave after wave of gnats today - early on the ride I managed to catch a large but straight down the gullet and the resulting paroxysm gave my riding buddies fits they were laughing so hard.
